Description

The Yamaji Drive Trail is a scenic route in the Midwest region of Western Australia that offers a chance to explore the area's history, art, and natural beauty.

The trail spans about 200 km and can be completed in one to two days, depending on how long you choose to stay at each site. Starting from Champion Bay's sandy beaches, the trail takes you through various scenic spots, including the tranquil waters of Chapman and Greenough Rivers and the red dirt landscapes of the lower Murchison.

One of the highlights of this trail is the opportunity to learn about the Aboriginal people from the Midwest, Murchison, and Gascoyne regions of Western Australia. The term "Yamaji" refers to these Aboriginal people and means "man" or "human being" in the Wajarri language. Along the trail, you'll have the chance to delve into their history and culture.

Aside from the Aboriginal history, the trail also offers opportunities to explore areas of natural beauty. Walk trails, such as the Greenough River nature trail, allow you to immerse yourself in the stunning surroundings. Whether you're interested in art, nature, or history, the Yamaji Drive Trail has something for everyone.

The trail can be enjoyed throughout the year, but the best time to visit is between April and September, during the cooler months. The trail begins at Champion Bay's sandy beaches and is well sign-posted. While the whole trail can be completed in one to two days, there are options to extend your stay at various points along the route. Accommodation options are available in Geraldton, Greenough, and Mullewa.
