Description

The Esplanade Park, also known as Fremantle Esplanade, is a delightful public reserve on Marine Terrace in Fremantle, Western Australia.

This beautiful park is situated across from the Esplanade Hotel and boasts of approximately 100 mature Norfolk Island Pines, which are a sight to behold. In addition to this, there is a monument dedicated to the explorers, known as the Explorers' Monument.

Before the establishment of the Swan River Colony, the southern Fremantle foreshore lay where Marine Terrace (previously known as Fitzgerald Terrace) is presently. Convict-built (circa 1880) seawalls prevented storm damage to the foreshore buildings, still, the sea and sand drifts continued to encroach. In 1831, Henry Reveley constructed a stone jetty close by, potentially from Anglesea Point near Bathers Beach. A second jetty (South Jetty) was built in 1854 on the same spot. In 1873, the kilometer-long Long Jetty was established near the park, extending from Anglesea Point. In 1902, authorities reclaimed more land from the sea, and the Esplanade was created with funds from the state government and the reclamation of a private area owned by J. Briggs M.L.C. A bandstand was inaugrated in 1906, and the first Norfolk Island Pines were planted two years later.

The Esplanade offers a great spot to unwind and take in spectacular views of the sea. Visitors can take a stroll or sit down and soak up the magnificent sights of the Norfolk Island Pines. The tranquil environment makes it an excellent spot to sit, relax and read a book.
