Description

Ten Mile Lagoon Wind Farm is located on a coastal ridge in Esperance, Western Australia.

It is Australia's first commercial wind farm, established in 1993, and consists of nine 225 kW Vestas wind turbines that generate over 2 Megawatts of energy.

The wind farm plays a crucial role in supplying electricity to the isolated town of Esperance, which is not connected to the electricity grid. Prior to the installation of the wind turbines, the town relied solely on a diesel power station for its power needs. The wind farm now works in conjunction with the power station to fulfill the town's energy requirements.

Considerable effort has been made to minimize the impact on the natural environment during the design and construction of the wind farm. The success of a smaller experimental wind farm in Salmon Beach led to the establishment of Ten Mile Lagoon Wind Farm, which has become a model of sustainable energy infrastructure.

While the wind farm is not open to the public for tours, it can be viewed from the surrounding area. The coastal views and windy atmosphere make it a popular spot for kite surfers and wind enthusiasts.
