Description

Located in the heart of Dubbo, the Macquarie River offers visitors a picturesque experience with several walking tracks, cycle tracks, and parks on both sides of the river.

Visitors can start their river adventure at the west end of Tamworth Street, where a car park and walking track along the river leads to the wonderful Taronga Western Plains Zoo. An excellent photo opportunity awaits visitors at the start of the walking track at the bottom end of Tamworth Street. Along the way, visitors can take in the beautiful river scenery and the diverse wildlife that calls the river its home.

For a perfect riverside picnic experience, check out the West bank of the river, behind the West Dubbo Bowling Club. From the main street heading south, visitors can turn over the bridge, then left at the roundabout, towards the Zoo. The first left after the West Dubbo bowling club takes visitors to a little steep road that leads to a picnic area on the river bank. Here, visitors can enjoy sheltered picnic areas and a BBQ. Alternatively, many areas along the river offer comfortable seating areas for visitors to relax, unwind, and take in the birds and river views.

The Macquarie River Dubbo is an all-year-round destination, with each season providing its unique offerings. Dubbo boasts several public transport options, including regional coach services and daily flights from Sydney or Brisbane. Visitors can also get there by private car or on foot, thanks to the town's excellent network of bike and walking paths. Parking is available at the west end of Tamworth Street, where the walking track to Taronga Western Plains
