Description

Quoin Bluff South, also known as Quoin Bluff, is a limestone headland on Dirk Hartog Island in Shark Bay, Western Australia.

It serves as a prominent navigation point, offering a view of the approaches to Egg Island.

In 1850, a small garrison was established at Quoin Bluff South to protect the guano deposits on Egg Island. The garrison consisted of 15 soldiers and was eventually recalled in July 1851 as the guano deposits were depleted. The remains of the garrison include a stone building and two cannons.

Quoin Bluff South is an important nesting site for pied cormorants, a black and white seabird. It is part of the Quoin Bluff and Freycinet Island Important Bird Area, supporting a significant population of the species.
