Description

Welcome to Shark Bay Marine Park, a protected marine park located within the UNESCO World Heritage-recognised Shark Bay.

Situated approximately 800 km north of Perth and 400 km north of Geraldton, this expansive marine park spans across 748,725 hectares.

Discover an abundance of fascinating marine life at Shark Bay Marine Park. Home to large marine animals such as dolphins, turtles, dugongs, and sharks, this park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The park's twelve species of seagrass meadows play an integral role in its ecosystem and are an important part of the Shark Bay World Heritage Area.

Shark Bay Marine Park is defined by significant reference points, including Steep Point at the south side of Dirk Hartog Island and Cape Inscription at the north side.

Fishing in Shark Bay Marine Park is subject to the Gascoyne Fishing Rules, which outline the waters and species that visitors can fish in the Shark Bay Inner Gulfs. The park's Eastern Gulf Zone is situated east of the Peron Peninsula and north from Cape Peron North, east to the mainland, with fishing prohibited in the southern portion of the zone, the Hamelin Pool Marine Nature Reserve. Alternatively, visitors can also enjoy fishing at the Denham Sound, located in the Western Gulf Zone. This region is south to the line at Goulet Bluff, which separates the Freycinet Estuary.
