Welcome to Darch

Previously part of Landsdale, much of the suburb was rural in character until it came into being in 1977 when the area was opened to residential development.

The suburb is bounded by Mulling Way and Furniss Road to the north, Mirrabooka Avenue to the east, Hepburn Avenue to the south and Hartman Drive to the west. It contains four schools, several small residential parks as well as Landsdale Park, a bushland reserve with interpretative signage.

Residents shopping needs are served by the Darch Plaza shopping centre, and the larger Kingsway City Shopping Centre to the west.

Inside my neighbourhood

Darch is part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and sits within the City’s Established South Place Management Area.

It’s a growing suburb with a population now of over 7,000 people.

Origin of name and history

Darch was named after an early settler family in the area, with the name being approved in 1997.

The Darch Family were some of the earliest settlers in Wanneroo. In 1860 convict Thomas Darch leased a farm near Lake Goollelal. This property originally housed the Wesleyan Mission Farm, but would remain in the Darch family until 1911. Descendants of Thomas Darch still reside in Wanneroo to this day.

Much of the suburb was rural in character until it came into being in 1977. The area was subsequently opened to residential development, especially from 2001 onwards, as part of Cell 6 of the East Wanneroo Development Area.

Ashdale Primary School, the first school in the area was opened in 2005 with the Ashdale Secondary College opening in 2009 for the suburb's high school students.
