Description

Mount Tilga is a prominent hill located approximately 8 kilometres north of Condobolin, in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia.

Once believed to be the centre of New South Wales, determining the exact geographical centre of an irregularly shaped landmass is no easy task. While Geoscience Australia suggests that a centre point for NSW could be just off Cockies Road, 33 kilometres west-north-west of Tottenham, a small town located 110 kilometres west of Dubbo, there are still debates over where the true centre lies. Nevertheless, Mount Tilga, with its height of 307 meters (1,007 ft) above sea level, offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, and is a popular spot for photography and sightseeing.

Visitors can reach Mount Tilga by car, following the directions from Condobolin to the north for about 8 kilometres. The hill rises sharply out of the plain and is clearly visible along the way. It is also possible to hike to the top of the hill for a more physically challenging experience. Whether or not it is the actual centre of New South Wales, a visit to Mount Tilga is still well worth the trip for its breathtaking views and central location.
