Description

Pine Lake Central Plateau is a natural gem located in the Central Highlands region of Tasmania.

It offers a 20-minute return walk that allows visitors to get close to the rare Athrotaxis Cupressoides, also known as the Tasmanian pencil pine.

The star attraction of the Pine Lake walk is the Athrotaxis Cupressoides, an ancient tree species found only in the Tasmanian highlands. These rare trees can grow up to 15-20 meters high with a trunk diameter of up to 1 meter.

The Pine Lake walk is an easy stroll suitable for all ages and skill levels. The well-maintained track takes visitors through diverse landscapes, including native woodland and wetland ecosystems. Along the way, there are interpretive signs providing information about the tree species and the natural environment.

Visitors can enjoy a picnic by the lakeshore while taking in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The lake is also a popular spot for birdwatching, with many native bird species in the area.

The Pine Lake walk is open year-round, offering a unique experience in each season. The best time to visit is in the summer months (December to February) when the weather is mild and the wildflowers are in full bloom. Winter months (June to August) bring snow and ice, while spring (September to November) brings new growth to the area.
