Description

Located in the heart of Canberra, Red Hill Lookout offers a panoramic view of the nation's capital.

The lookout lies in the Red Hill Nature Reserve and is known for its tranquil atmosphere and picturesque views. The lookout is situated to the south of the city centre, and with its height of 135 meters, it offers sweeping vistas of Canberra's iconic landmarks, including the Parliament House and Lake Burley Griffin. Additionally, Red Hill Lookout offers two eateries, Onred and Little Brother, making it an excellent place to stop and refuel while exploring the city.

Red Hill Lookout offers a 5.1-km loop trail that is perfect for hiking, running, or an afternoon stroll. The trail is considered easy but offers some elevation gain and takes about 1 hour and 23 minutes to complete. The trail is well-maintained and allows dogs, but they must be on a leash. The lookout also provides an excellent opportunity for birdwatching, with the eucalypt hollows being the favourite nesting places of white-throated treecreepers and southern boobooks. Moreover, the deciduous trees in the suburbs below make the autumn view of Red Hill Lookout, a sight to behold.

Red Hill Lookout is open year-round, providing breathtaking views and an escape from the city's bustling streets any time of the year. If you're planning to visit during the autumn season, the changing colours of foliage, especially the deciduous trees that turn brilliant shades of red and orange, are a must-see.

If you're coming from Black Mountain, turn right onto Clunies Ross Street, continue west along Lady Denman Drive past the zoo and over the dam. Take the first exit left on
