Description

Gold Creek Reservoir is a popular destination located west of Brisbane, Queensland.

The area is home to eight popular trails ranging from moderate to challenging, making it perfect for hikers, trail runners, and mountain bikers. Visitors can enjoy birdwatching, hiking, and running across the 5.1-km loop trail through the native forest. The trail is considered to be moderately challenging, with an elevation gain of 152 meters. The route starts near the top of the dam/reservoir, and it can be done in both directions. The trail offers excellent opportunities for bird spotting along the water’s edge. Visitors have reported spotting a wide variety of birds such as Great Aust Parrots, Brown Cuckoo Dove, Bellbirds, Gerygones, Red Brows, and Eagles.

The hike offers fantastic views of the local bush and, although it’s not keeping close to the reservoir, it is a great immersion in nature. There are some good hills and birdlife, and it's popular for trail running. Visitors should be cautious coming down some of the steeper sections due to loose dry soil and rocks. There is only really one good photo opportunity, but the trail's overall beauty makes it a great place to immerse oneself in nature. As it is located in the Upper Brookfield area, visitors might experience limited mobile coverage in some parts. It is advisable to download or print the trail map beforehand to ensure a safe hike.

Recent reviews of the trail on AllTrails have reported that the track is slightly overgrown in some parts, so visitors should be prepared to wear long sleeves and take lots of water and sunscreen in summer newline.
