Greythorn Park

Greythorn Park is a recreational area in Balwyn North, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

It was originally owned by the Maughan family and was named after the surrounding Greythorn suburb. The North Balwyn Wildlife Sanctuary, operated by the Maughan family, opened in 1938 and hosted American servicemen during World War II. In 1951, the sanctuary was bequeathed to the City of Camberwell as a recreational park. Development over the years included the opening of tennis courts in 1968 and the construction of a scout hall in 1976. Recently, two signs displaying information about the park's history and the surrounding area have been erected.

Situated on a hill with an elevation of 91.2m above sea level, Greythorn Park consists of two main open spaces. The western oval is used by various sporting clubs, while the eastern oval is for passive recreation. A sports pavilion, scout hall, and tennis club pavilion are located between the two spaces. There is also a small artificial creek and a children's playground in the center of the park.

Although there is no direct public transportation to the park, visitors can walk from the 48 tram terminus on Balwyn Road or take bus route 284 along Greythorn Road. There are two carparks within the park, accessible via Robert Street and off Alpha Street. Informal walking tracks encircle the grounds.

Greythorn Park is home to several sporting clubs and community organizations, including the Greythorn Park Tennis Club, Kew Rovers Football Club, Koonung Heights Cricket Club, North Balwyn Combined Cricket Club, and the 1st Greythorn Park Scouts. The Friends of Greythorn
