Jamel Kitchens was approached to collaborate with the builder, Switch Homes, in the creation of this one-off kitchen island design for a large family of six that loves entertaining. As the centre of the home, the space needed a functional and impressive feature to cater to the clients' busy lifestyle.
The custom, curved oval island bench brings an immediate 'wow' factor to the room, while serving many purposes. The clients requested the island to have plenty of storage options for optimum organisation, while maintaining its functionality as a dining area. To achieve this, Jamel Kitchens used its handmade press and CNC cutter, and MDF glued and laminated elements together resulting in the perfect profile.
The Caesarstone benchtop works as a food preparation area on one side, while the concave cabinetry creates an overhanging benchtop for casual dining on the other. Soft-closing Hafele drawers and under-bench and overhead cupboards provide ample storage, finished in a white gloss lacquer that complements the flooring.
Keeping the colour scheme neutral gives this kitchen a fresh, modern appeal that's free-flowing yet suitably practical.
