When hunting for gifts, shopping sustainably can be difficult. Luckily, Perth has no shortage of stores that are locally run and specialise in eco-friendly, sustainable gifts. Here are a few to consider for your earth-loving friends.

Bstore

Although primarily known for selling Birkenstocks, Bstore actually stocks a bunch of other footwear brands, like the ultra-sustainable Teva sandal. Best described as a modern version of the 90s Dad sandal; this style has had a resurgence in the last year for both men and women, with Vogue noting them as a summer trend this year. The Velcro straps are made entirely of recycled plastic bottles, so each pair of shoes saves about four bottles from ending up in landfill. Shoes can be a tough one to buy for someone else, so we suggest grabbing a voucher or taking them in with you.

Store locations in Subiaco, Claremont, Claremont Quarter, Garden City, Whitford City and Perth City. Opening hours vary; shopping centres open late on Thursdays.

Garden and homewares to connect with nature from Urban Revolution

Although only a small store, Urban Revolution manages to stock over 1000 eco-friendly gift items with a specific focus on permaculture and giftware such as gardening items and reusable home wares. Unique gift ideas from this store include the woven birdhouse roosting pockets pictured above, the bamboo bee hotel which attracts bees and offers a roost, and the inside/outside worm café which produces nutrient-rich fertiliser from organic waste using worm castings. Run by staff with strong personal mantras of eco-consciousness, the store runs free workshops to educate people on how to reduce their environmental impact. These are run at irregular times, so keep an eye on their Facebook page to see when the next event is.

Sustainable gifts from Zero Store

It wouldn’t be responsible to create a list of sustainable stores and not mention Freo’s largest zero waste business. Zero Store is a general store of sorts, selling basically everything but food and producing no waste in the process. Their mission is to make sustainable living more convenient by offering easy switches for common items, such as keep cups made from stylish ceramics, reusable wooden teethers for parents with new bubs and rose quartz facial rollers for the beauty lovers.
