"I think you have to be different, these days – you can't just be a normal cafe," says Get Ya Fix co-owner Kev. Trust us: he's definitely ticked that box. The cafe-slash-bike shop (slash council headache, due to its hybrid vibe) opened in September with $1 pre-paid coffee cards, uber-zen neutral sofas, minimalist bare bulbs, and a store stocked with streetwear and on-trend fixed-gear bikes. Sure, there's a crowd of regulars that descends on Third Wheel – but it's not the long mac-sipping, Lycra-clad cyclist packs owners Georgia and Tom anticipated when they opened their doors. "We get a lot of local customers, and we also get a lot of people walking up from the dog beach," says Georgia. With its communal wooden table, casual jars of native flowers, and striking black-and-white mural, Workshop Espresso is surprisingly pretty for a cafe attached to an industrial-style bike shop. Owners Felicity and John have found that customers seem to agree. "We thought we'd be this cafe full of Lycra-clad men, but it's completely the opposite," says Felicity. "We get heaps of locals, heaps of women coming in for afternoon tea. It's totally different to what we'd anticipated, which is really nice." 206 Cambridge Street, Wembley.
