The Sunday session legacy began back when local pubs would only be open for three hours on a Sunday. Scrambling for $4 beer jugs, it became a weekly ritual. Its evolved throughout the years but still remains a fun way to finish off the weekend. Here are the top five Sunday sessions happening in Perth right now.

Sunday Spritzing Session at The Aviary, Perth CBD

The Aviary is one of Perth’s many iconic rooftop bars suitable for a range of occasions. The city’s skyline sets the backdrop, with relaxed seating scattered throughout the venue. The Sunday Sessions attract a young crowd with infectious energy - the kind that will lead you to have a few more drinks than you initially intended. A highlight of Sundays at The Aviary, in our opinion, is the $10 spritz and charcuterie board special. The bar also makes it their mission to use their Sunday’s to support local DJs with tunes kicking off in the early arvo. There’s plenty of staff available, so you can expect pretty quick service, but you’ll want to be on your best behaviour. Security around the bar can be strict on your performance of the alphabet backwards.

GB Sundays at The Windsor, South Perth

The Windsor hotel recently introduced its Garden Bar, a relaxed outdoor venue decorated with botanicals. Their Sunday Sesh deals include $2 oysters, $20 burgers and the classic $10 spritz. Be warned however as these specials make it difficult to find parking and anything you do find available is most likely ridiculously overpriced. The crowd at the Garden Bar usually sticks around for a while so you’re best off getting an Uber in. Bookings aren’t available so best to get in early. It gets busy as early as 2pm with patrons taking advantage of the exclusive access to the new rotisserie and Pizza kitchen, The Perch.

SEND IT at Coast Port Beach, Fremantle

Situated on the shores of Fremantle's Port beach, there’s no better way to end your weekend than a coastal swim and drink. Coast Port Beach is known for its panoramic views of the Indian ocean and $7 drink specials on Sunday. Unlike most Sunday Session venues, this one is family-friendly, with plenty of play areas for the kids. You have the option to get right up close to the live entertainment in the outdoor area or stay inside where it's quieter for a more conversational setting. Bookings are only available for parties of four and up, but the crowd turns over quickly, so you're pretty much guaranteed to get a good spot. It’s a favourite for the locals, usually coming back for the Surf & Turf pizza, with shark bay prawns and brisket.

Seaside 3 at Cottesloe Beach Hotel, Cottesloe

Known as the OG for Sunday sessions, renovations a few years ago transformed Cottesloe Beach Hotel into a Hamptons oasis, with its umbrellas and new white-grey colour scheme. The Sunday crowd is mixed with the older locals and newcomers alike. The venue is filled with open lounges and serviced by three bars. Their menu is pricey, so if you’re looking for a satisfying meal and a few drinks, get ready to spend. They finish up at 10pm making this the perfect Sunday Session for those looking to get a fairly decent nights sleep before heading to work on Monday.

Sunday Sessions at Si Paradiso, Highgate

Much like its name, Si Paradiso does indeed transport you to a Spanish oasis. Si Paradiso carries a young and fun atmosphere, with various spots to suit your mood. The lobby bar is perfect for a sit-down dinner with a few cocktails involved. The amphitheatre is where you’ll find live entertainment and creates an intimate area for those wanting to appreciate the DJ’s tunes. Once everyone has had a couple of drinks you’ll notice the subtle transition to the basement, best described as an underground dance club. Their menu is European inspired, and despite the questionable reliability of the intoxicated sources, is delicious. We can confirm that their pizza is a real crowd-pleaser.
