Another favourite of the summer film season, Luna Outdoor promises a varied lineup to be enjoyed under the stars – from documentaries and foreign films, to independent dramas and new blockbusters including Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Here are five picks from the program ahead.

Paolo Sorrentino’s second English language film – led by British icon Michael Caine – is about two old friends vacationing at a prestigious Swiss Alps hotel, musing on those around them. Youth was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.


Inspired by a true story, this film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as an injured hunter left to die in the wilderness by a treacherous member of his own team (Tom Hardy). He must face a violent winter and warring tribes to survive and seek revenge.


Winning the Venice Film Festival Grand Jury Prize, Anomoalisa is the latest tale from the brilliant mind of Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). This fable uses stop-motion animation to convey themes of love, creation and the human connection.


Based on the best-selling novel by Emma O’Donoghue, Room traces the journey of a young woman and her five-year old son as they adjust to the world after years of captivity.
