Description

Owned and operated by Kate and Shaun Woods, the 10 Chains vineyard is situated within the Pemberton Wine Region and was established in 1996. The rich loam soils that are unique to the Karri forests of the region, which provide ideal growing conditions for the cool climate wine style associated with Pemberton.

The name 10 Chains draws from the historic measurement of a “chain” used up until the 1960s for mapping and land surveying.

Description

Below and Above Wines are grown in the Thella Estate vineyard in Pemberton's southern forests.  The property has been a lucrative supplier of grapes to established WA vineyards since the 1990s.

Thella Estate was identified early by Western Australian viticulture pioneers as one of the best patches of dirt in the state for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir due to a complex and specific interaction of environmental conditions including: relatively cool climate; deep red, loamy, gravel soil; high rainfall and altitude (250 metres above sea level).

The Below and Above label began in 2013 as a small-batch wine made by renowned WA contract winemaker Bruce Dukes. Proprietors John and Evdokia Klepec have focussed their efforts on growing world-class Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, working closely with Bruce Dukes to enhance their viticulture to produce superb fruit and exceptional wine.

Description

Owners Clinton Robertson and Melissa Nicholls purchased the 25-year-old property in 2015 and have dedicated the recent years to rehabilitating and restoring its mature vines. Land is farmed with minimal impact using biological practices, allowing nature and vine to work together in harmony.

What began as a passion for wine in 1987 for Vic Kordic has blossomed into an impressive operation with an award-winning wine range. Sons Mark and Paul Kordic now head the vineyard and make cool climate estate-grown and bottled wines with elegant and unique character from their boutique operation.

The Wines

The wines have a great depth of flavour and texture born from sensitive winemaking and fermentation with natural yeast in the Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs, reflective of Manjimup’s ideal growing conditions. The award-winning range also includes Verdelho, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and a Sparkling Merlot.

Description

Donnelly River Wines was one of the first in the region Pemberton wine region. Established on the Donnelly River in 1985, the property’s rich river flats, surrounding hills and tall Karri trees have proved ideal for premium viticulture; the vines benefitting from the dry, cool ripening period within the area.

The Wines

Donnelly River's range includes an approachable mix of sweet to dry red and white wines, prosecco and traditional method sparkling and classic port and muscat. Wines can be purchased at the Pemberton cellar door, the Donnelly warehouse in Joondalup or online.

Cellar Door

The popular rustic cellar door offers a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the picturesque vineyard to discover the extensive wine range. Open Friday to Monday 10am-5pm.

Description

Owners Ardal and Sue made a seachange from Perth to Pemberton with their two children in 2014. Ardal's 30 years of experience as a chef contributed greatly to the design and refurbishment of the estate's beautiful restaurant where he spends most of his time when not in the vineyard and gardens with Sue.

Only 3km from the Pemberton township, the vineyard at Hidden River Estate was established in 1994 and is situated on rich Karri loam soil. The vines have consistently produced exceptional berries from which the wines are produced, imbibed with the distinct fruit characters of the terroir and climate of cool nights and warm summer days.

The Wines

The wines are labelled with iconic illustrations by Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha and reflect the sophistication and elegance of Hidden River wines and are a celebration of nature and beauty. Varieties include an Unwooded Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Wooded Chardonnay, Sweet Chardonnay, Rose and Merlot. Wines are available for tasting and purchase at the estate's charming cellar door, open Wednesday to Sunday 10am - 4pm.

The Food

Overlooking the giant Karri trees of Pemberton, Chef-owner Ardal has continued a theme of nature and beauty through his menus, capturing the spectrum of tastes, flavours and fragrance from the regional produce.  He believes in genuine honest food which can come from traditional recipes as well as the new and novel approaches. His well-crafted dishes combine the art of taste with the knowledge of cooking.

Description

Established in 1989, Lost Lake Vineyard is situated in the scenic Eastbrook Valley in the heart of the Pemberton Wine Region. Ash and Tia Lewkowski took it over in 2014, and along with grape vines, raise alpacas, sheep on their property.  The 8 hectare vineyard has some of the region’s oldest. vines and produces around fifty tonnes of premium cool-climate fruit.

The Wines

Winemaker, Ash follows a purist approach and follows environmentally conscious principles to optimise their site and make the Lost Lake range which includes Pinot Rose, Honey Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. Two ciders are also produced.

Cellar Door

The homely, dog-friendly cellar door, complete with a striking painted mural is open Saturday and Sunday from 11am-4pm. For something a little different, book in to Ash’s 60 minute wine appreciation course. It operates on Sundays by appointment.

Description

Early pioneers of the wine industry in WA's South West, Andrew and Sue Mountford established the winery in 1987 after spending three years researching the Pemberton area. After analysing soil samples, rainfall and grape varieties best suited to the region, six hectares of vines were planted and an award winning winery and cellar door facility was hand-built with bricks made onsite.  In 2003 the winery became the first NASAA Certified Organic winery in the region with the vineyard certification following in 2006.

The Wines

The range focuses on Pemberton’s most respected wine varieties, namely Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. In 2018 Mountford Wines released Australia’s first Truffle Liqueur made from local Manjimup truffles. The winery is also home to the Tangletoe Ciders which feature organic handcrafted ciders and vinegars.

Cellar Door

One of the first wineries in the region, Mountford's cellar door was crafted from hand-made adobe bricks sourced onsite, and has become an icon of the region. An art gallery opened in 1994 and hosts ongoing seasonal exhibitions representing local artists. Open daily from 10am-4pm.

Olde Eastbrook Wines

An immaculate 11-hectare vineyard surrounded by the Karri and Marri trees of the Diamond State Forest, growing cool-climate, varietal wines in Pemberton.

Description

Enjoying a unique position within Pemberton; bounded by the pristine Diamond State Forest, Olde Eastbrook Wines grows high quality fruit for their own label and other established wineries in the region. The vineyard is managed by Justin Omodei and his family whose ancestors first arrived in Pemberton in 1925. Bountiful spring water, ideal soils and a cool climate ensure exceptional fruit quality for the property's 11 hectares of vines.

Olde Eastbrook focuses on Pemberton’s regional hero varieties including Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Shiraz. A Blanc de Blanc Sparkling is also made. Wines can be purchased online, or at the winery to be enjoyed under the gazebo overlooking the picturesque Eastbrook vineyard.

Description

Pemberley of Pemberton produces some of the best of what life can offer; fine wines, premium potatoes, black truffles, marron and Angus Beef. It began as a farm in the 1970s by the Radomiljac family. Vines were planted in 1995 by Monica and David Radomiljac, who along with their children, have worked their property to grow the best quality food and wine.

Success with their wines led to additional vines being planted and now and the vineyard now includes 75 hectares of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Merlot and Pinot Gris. Most of these are made into individual varietal wines.

The wines, particularly the Rose, have received tremendous success with the critics including multiple ‘Best of the West’ accolades in The West Australian Wine Guide, plus the titles of Small Producer of the Year and Winemaker of the Year in 2014.

Tours include a ‘tour and tasting’ experience and can be arranged in advance for groups of 4 – 12 people.

 

 

Peos Estate

Description

Manjimup has been home to the Macedonian-born Peos family for more than 80 years. They were attracted to the land by its rich soils and ideal crop-growing weather and their farm has grown everything from dairy cattle to beef, mixed horticulture, potatoes cauliflowers and beans. 

Brothers Vic, John, Kon and Chris planted vines to establish Peos Estate in 1996 as a legacy to their late father Jim and have had great success with their memorable, world-class, estate-grown range made from the 90 acre property. The brothers work hard to keep family traditions alive and ensure Peos Estate follows the customs that were passed down by their late father and grandfather.

Description

One of Australia’s leading premium producers, Picardy was established by Bill, Sandra and Dan Pannell, the same family who established the iconic Margaret River winery, Moss Wood.

All wines are estate-grown on Picardy’s single vineyard property in Pemberton on unirrigated, cane-pruned and handpicked vines. The vineyard is managed meticulously utilising the most labour-intensive practices for canopy management to grow ultra-premium fruit. The purpose-built winery was designed tapping into Bill and Dan’s forty years of experience and follows a minimal intervention approach to winemaking.

Burgundy varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the focus and a considerable variety of clones have been planted within the vineyard. The family have imported five clones of Pinot directly from Burgundy. Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and a Bordeaux inspired red blend are also made.

The wines are available direct online or through selected retailers and restaurants.

The cellar door is available by appointment only.

Description

Alan and Leanne Rowe acquired their 40 hectare Pemberton property in 2003, planting the first vines in 2005. Much of the vineyard was planted solely by Alan.

The focus is on growing Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and significant resource is put into the vineyard in order to grow quality fruit from sustainable farming. Modern canopy management ensures the vines produce bunches of sun-ripened grapes of the highest quality. Minimal herbicidal sprays, fertilisers and water are used to ensure handpicked grapes are of optimum quality. Rambouillet's wines have received awards from the QANTAS Wine Show, the WA Boutique Wine Show, and the National Cool Climate Wine Show.

Cellar Door

Beautiful green pastures, a petite hand-worked vineyard and the surrounding majestic Karri forest make for a charming, French country style cellar door experience, offering wine tastings daily from 11am to 5pm.

Description

Nestled amongst magnificent and picturesque Karri and Jarrah forest, Silkwood Wines’ undulating landscape, a temperate climate and rich gravelly loam soils produce wines of exceptional quality. Owned by the Bowman family since 2004, the first vines of the 23 hectare vineyard  (Shiraz and Chardonnay) were planted in 1999. Subsequent plantings of many more grape varieties followed.

The Wines

Silkwood's extensive range focuses on regional varietal wines, expressed through three tiers. Pemberton’s flagship varietals Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling are at the core of the range which is also embellished with Shiraz, Merlot, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Semillon, Malbec and two sparkling wines.

The scenic, lakeside cellar door, with its knowledgeable staff provides the perfect relaxed setting to sample Silkwood Wine’s extensive range of wines. Open Friday to Monday 10am - 4pm.

Pemberton is renowned for its exceptional fresh produce and the Silkwood restaurant uses the finest local ingredients in its colourful, seasonal menu, created by world-class chefs. The Truffle & Wine Co. has grown from humble beginnings in 1997 to become Australia’s most significant truffle grower, contributing around 60% of the nation’s annual production, which is mostly exported.

It’s easy to feel like you’re in the heart of France when entering this truffle farm and vineyard. Vines, orchards and misty valleys provide a beautiful setting in which to enjoy award-winning wines at the Cellar Door, along with food infused with the distinct and unique flavour of truffles in the Restaurant.

The wine range comprises mostly dry table wines that are elegant in style. There’s a sparkling Shiraz and Shiraz Liqueur too. All wines can be tasted at the Cellar Door which is open 10am – 4pm daily.

The Food

The Truffle Restaurant serves lunch daily, showcasing a menu of rustic, local fare to showcase the truffles and award-winning wines in the most spectacular manner. Bookings are recommended.

Unique Highlights

The Truffière is the largest cultivator of the gourmet French black truffle in the southern hemisphere and the Wine & Truffle Co is one of the few Truffières in the world where you can participate in the excitement of a guided ‘truffle hunt’. Experience the excitement of a guided ‘truffle hunt tour’ and search for the elusive ‘Black Diamond”. Tours operate during truffle season from June to August.
