Description

Boffins Bookshop is an Australian owned, independent bookseller offering customers an eclectic range of technical, practical, special interest and fiction books.

We first opened our doors in Perth’s CBD in 1989, and since then have grown to become the leading technical bookshop in Western Australia, winning the Australian Book Industry Association's award for Best Specialist Bookseller six times running.

At Boffins we endeavour to stock a comprehensive selection of new and bestselling books across a wide range of categories from not only the world's best known and major publishers but many smaller publishers specialising in niche topics (browse our departments for the full range).

Because it is not possible to carry every book available at any given time, we offer a special order service, using our many years’ experience to track down those hard-to-find titles for our customers.

At Boffins Bookshop you will find staff who have a passion for books, along with a commitment to helping readers like you find exactly what they are looking for.

Crow Books

Crow Books sits in the hub of the Victoria Park shopping precinct, an area filled with restaurants, cafes, curio shops and stores selling colourful gourmet stuff in fancy jars.

Details

  • Shopping:Bookshops
  • Open Days:Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday,Sunday

Description

Crow Books has extremely friendly opening hours, retailing seven days a week from mid morning till 9 -10pm or so (check the website for specific days), which is great going for a relatively small independent bookstore.

They encourage extended browsing to a hip soundtrack (they were playing TV On The Radio while I was there). Crow Books would be great fun to visit at night after a meal at a nearby restaurant, which is just the right time to revel in the atmosphere of rows of books and weird animal posters containing strange aphorisms.

Oh, and there’s a somewhat macabre crow overseeing proceedings as well.

New Edition Bookshop in Perth is as cosy as your lounge room, if your lounge room had a great barista and a wise bookseller in residence.

Details

  • Open Days:Friday,Saturday,Sunday,Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday
  • Shopping:Bookshops

Description

New Edition is a Perth icon. It was located in the heart of Fremantle for eons (well quite a few years), down on South Terrace, but in recent years it has moved to High Street Freo, and also opened a second branch where the great and glorious Arcane Bookshop used to be, in William Street in Perth.

New Edition Bookshop in Perth is as cosy as your lounge room, if your lounge room had a great barista and a wise bookseller in residence.

The stock mix makes you want to be smarter, more literary (when you clearly aren’t as you haven’t read half the novelists on their wall) but New Ed would never make you feel inferior for your lack of literary education, they just want to help you towards a deeper reading experience.

New Ed has the perfect amount of bookshop cool; making a visit there more about enlightenment than intimidation.

Description

Planet has had a long and celebrated history on Beaufort Street. In December 1990 Planet first opened the doors after the metamorphosis of its predecessor Topshow Video. A few years later, in 96', Planet added music and film sales to its portfolio.

Planet Books was the latest edition in 2006. Splitting at the seams with books, collectables and giftware, with titles spanning all genres, it’s Mt. Lawley’s best store for the literary folk in Perth. No matter what kind you’re into, Planet caters to the alternate and the masses. Importing from publishers far and wide, including Harpers, Phaidon, Taschen and Penguin, Planet Books has Perth’s best range.

Although the video and music counterparts are no longer, the Planet ethos remains the same. Owners Haydn and Anthea Robinson had a vision to create Perth’s left of centre, go-to store from the beginning and continue to practice what they preach.

In September 2016, they also acquired Northside; Northbridge's answer for the book curious. The area has a vibrancy and quirk that's unlike any other Perth suburb. It was not a question of if Planet Books would venture there, but a matter of when. Watch this space...

Description

Subiaco Bookshop is all about books.

An independent bookshop run by Leigh and her mother June for over twenty six years.

The bookshop reflects Leigh and June’s interests as lifelong passionate readers. It functions as a source of recommendations, a place where good books of many types and subjects may be found and discussed. A place to browse and enjoy the smell of a real bookshop.

The range of books reflect their tastes: one shelf of history but five of gardening. There’s a travel section up front and a large children’s sections, and a loyal local clientele, supplemented by “tourists”.Over the years the big book chain stores have lost their souls (and some more recently their shirt). If you love old school book stores, Subiaco Book Shop is for you.

Sitting in an older style building on Rokeby ( just up from the renowned Witches' Cauldron), with polished floorboards and high ceilings, this shop invites you in and encourages you to stay for a while, to browse and discover it's hidden treasures.
