Hosting over 100 talented emerging Aboriginal artists, the galleries will brim with contemporary work, fresh from the studios of WA’s Aboriginal Art Centres and independent artists. Not to be missed, the exhibition will open with a very special performance by the Red Sand Beat Band, who are travelling here from the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. Their laidback reggae desert beats and lyrics tell stories of their homelands, daily life and keeping culture strong. Revealed is an annual exhibition which provides an important platform for emerging WA Aboriginal artists to connect with new audiences. The year is 2530. Humans have long since left planet Earth. After mistreating the natural environment for centuries, they were forced to see a new home beyond the stars. What remains is little more than an abandoned pile of decaying infrastructure, appliances, and a scattered population of LEGO minifigs. Built for the young and young-at-heart, using found objects, LEGO, mixed media and multiple layers of storytelling; RELICS; Bricks of the New World is a timely exploration of adaptation, sustainability, diversity and the connections we make with one another. Western Australian animals have been targeted as pests by locals and farmers. Some have been exploited for profit and hunted to near extinction. Native fauna have been celebrated as emblems and studied by scientists. They have been captured in photographs and in cages. The stories in this exhibition are found in records created by government departments, including the CSIRO, Department of Defence and ABC. They show how Western Australians have interacted with the state’s unique wildlife and highlight changing attitudes towards animals and the environment. Which animal was the target of a military campaign? What now beloved animal was dismissed as an annoying rodent? Why is there a whale tooth in the national archival collection? Apart from the electricity rationing, daily radiation warnings and coastal erosion, everything with them is fine. Around them however, the world is in chaos, with the fallout of a nuclear power plant meltdown threatening their very existence. When old friend and colleague Rose (Vivienne Garrett) arrives unexpectedly, their future and past lives collide as they debate the present and the challenges they face. Directed by Stuart Halusz.

The West Australian Ballet company brings the 178-year-old tale of impossible love, vengeful ghosts and ultimate forgiveness, Giselle to His Majesty's Theatre. Choreographed by Aurélien Scannella and Sandy Delasalle, the West Australian Ballet company presents stunning classical costumes, featuring the West Australian Symphony Orchestra emerging the audience in the classic story. The duration of the Ballet is two hours and 15 minutes, including intermission and is recommended for an audience of four years of age and over, with tickets ranging from $28 to $145.

Enter the circle, breathe in the incense and spice, be enveloped by the loving embrace of MoR: An exploration of brown motherhood through the eyes of the migrant daughter. Science experiments meet spoken word poetry, as Dureshawar Khan weaves a rich tapestry of experiences punctuating the journey of brown womanhood and the lessons lovingly passed down from mother to daughter. Told in both English and Pashto, MoR is a love letter to every person we’ve ever called mum.

This exhibition attempts to showcase works of art that reflect the depth of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture, with other aspects of the Aboriginal condition. As a result, radical observations about the ups and downs of life will, at times, weave in and out of stories about Country. Equally, across the show, visitors will encounter passages of serenity, corridors of tradition, and trails that speak to the upheavals experienced by generations of Indigenous people. Balancing Act features the work of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists living and working across the State and Australia. Works of art by local Noongar artists such as Revel Cooper (dec.), Sandra Hill, Dianne Jones and Shane Pickett (dec.) sit loud-and-proud among those by Richard Bell, Karla Dickens, Julie Dowling and Brian Robinson to name a few of the many stellar artists in the show. The artworks featured cut across religion, royalty and everyday life in India from various contexts and social perspectives. By sharing these works with the public, we hope to celebrate our connections to the Indo-Pacific region.

Storytime is a story telling session for pre-schoolers, followed by a play session or take home colour in sheet. During the school term, storytelling sessions for pre-schoolers are held on Tuesdays at 10.30am and repeated on Fridays at 10.30am. During school holidays, storytime is held on Fridays only at 10.30am. Please be sure to book a ticket for every person attending including children.

In the 1950s and 1960s, thousands of British migrants were welcomed to Australia as part of assisted passage migration schemes. This exhibition explores this story, showing how Liz Anelli crafted the illustrations through layering of sketches, collage, ephemera and digital techniques. Especially curated for children and families, this exhibition is supported by a self-guided trail. Free exhibition, no tickets required.

You may not have heard of walking netball yet, but this new sport is a fun and friendly way to keep fit. Essentially indoor netball where you're only allowed to walk, Welcome Back Netball run a game every Tuesday evening at the Gold Netball Centre in Jolimont at 5.45pm.

This game attracts a range of players, from young people recoving from injuries to older players that are 50+. Everyone is welcome! If you'd like to try this unusual take on the original game of netball, get in touch.
