About

Applications are now open to participate in the 2018 ClimateClever Initiative! This program started as the Low Carbon Schools Pilot Program (LCSPP) in 2016 and has worked with 15 schools across the Perth Metropolitan area over the last two years. We experienced such fantastic success with participating schools that the program is being launched nationally in 2018 as the ClimateClever Initiative.

This information session will provide you with an overview of the program, benefits of pursuing carbon reduction initiatives and how the ClimateClever Initiative and the innovative ClimateClever apps will help reduce your school's carbon footprint and save you valuable school money in the process.

One school in Perth has saved over $80,000 by pursuing carbon reduction initiatives at their school. Think of where that saved money could go!

Who is it for?

This session is for principals, deputy principals, registrars, business managers, support staff, teaching staff, P&C members and community members/volunteers who want to pursue carbon reduction and efficiency at their school. We encourage anyone involved with a school to come along and learn more.

For more information visit our website: www.simplycarbon.com.au/climateclever-initiative-2018/ or email [email protected]

What if we have already signed up?

Any members of your committee who have not yet attended an information session can come to meet other participants and hear about what is involved next year.

Are you having information sessions at other locations/dates in Perth?

Yes! Visit simplycarbon.com.au/events to see all of our information session dates and locations.

Light refreshments will be provided

Farming Champions

Why do we need Farming Champions in Australia and how does the future of farming in our country affect the wider community?

 • Charity:Environmental,Family,Food,Local Community,Animals,Education & Training
 • Type:Charity

Details

Description

Australian farmers and pastoralists have stewardship of over 60% of our country. This percentage is diminishing yearly as debt ridden farming businesses are forced to sell out, with the most attractive offers coming from China, India, the Middle East and other countries who are looking towards their future food security. It is notable that they are not purchasing marginal land but choosing the most fertile and productive country.

We want to:

 • Create awareness of the importance of agriculture to all Australians
 • Redefining farming as an ‘ESSENTIAL SERVICE’ -'without food we die!'
 • Raise awareness of the huge challenges farmers are facing and why many are exiting the industry
 • Ask why Australian farms are being sold to China, India, the Middle East and other countries
 • Put agriculture on the top of the ‘POLITICAL MENU’

We need you to become a FARMING CHAMPION, gathering your friends and colleagues to help create an avalanche of support and insure the future of Australian farmers. Without you, farmers do not have the numbers!

Description

REmida WA is Perth’s Creative Reuse Centre, a not-for-profit community project that works closely with education to provide a unique, creative and responsible solution to industry waste. Through its workshop and membership programs, REmida aims to inspire the curiousity and creativity of adults & children alike with the infinite possibilities of creative reuse and thus encourage a more thoughtful relationship with waste.

REmida materials consist of the discards, offcuts, remnants and refuse of local industry, materials that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. REmida, meaning ‘King Midas’ in Italian, gives new meaning to these materials and highlights the value & beauty imbedded within them, working effectively to change the way that they are viewed – not as rubbish but as valuable, interesting & beautiful.

The materials collected by REmida are not sold, instead once a school, daycare, artist or family signs up as a member they are given unlimited access to the materials and are able to collect as often they need to, for free. The membership program is designed to encourage regular usage of REmida materials, providing a sustainable environmental solution to a school’s ongoing and often financially exhausting material needs.

Workshops at REmida explore how useful and inspirational the materials are, and the endless possibilities they have for reuse through exploration, play and construction. School Workshops are aimed at predominantly primary school aged children with a range of activities that the teacher can choose from. Workshops are also available in festival settings and the REmida Play Experience is an interesting addition to any festival’s family area. REmida also holds its own events, with its annual REmida Day celebration in May, festivities during National Recycling Week in November and an Artist-In-Residence program running throughout the year.

Join REmida as a member, donate your business’ waste materials or help the project by volunteering your time & skills. Please see www.remidawa.com for more details. REmida WA, supporting the development and practice of new sustainable art forms in Western Aus-tralia.

The Kimberley- Like Nowhere Else

A growing community working to protect the Kimberley, one of the last great unspoilt landscapes on Earth.

 • Type:DGR 1 Status
 • Charity:Environmental

Details

Description

The Kimberley is a region of spectacular natural beauty. Its unique landscapes and wildlife are like nowhere else on earth. The Kimberley coast is one of the last remaining unspoilt coastlines, and scientific studies have shown it remains one of the most pristine marine areas on Earth.

It is also a region rich in cultural heritage, with Traditional Owners continuing their ancient culture that is tens of thousands of years old. In the landscape, this long history is evident through the presence of artifacts such as rock art galleries, shell middens and fish traps.

Stretching across an area nearly twice the size of Victoria, the Kimberley is comparable to the Great Barrier Reef, or the Amazon Rainforest, as a large intact area of outstanding natural value.

Such an incredible region of natural wonder deserves world class conservation. We are working as an alliance to ensure the Kimberley gets the high level of protection it deserves.
