Australian Revelations: The Loved Ones

The Loved Ones is a must see for fans of the horror genre.

Details

  • Venue Address:21 Simpson St, West Perth WA 6005
  • Ticket Price:$26.50
  • Type:Film
  • Audience:Adults
  • Film:Indoor Films

Description

The importance of genre has been the hot topic in the Australian film industry over the past few years with films like The Babadook, Lost Gully Road,Snowtown and others…and this feature is the perfect example of what can be produced by local talent.  Starting out as a coming of age movie, there's a rapid gear change and something far nastier emerges in this blood splattered horror classic-to-be.  Expect mirror disco balls, prom queens, dirty kitchens, nails and blood.  To say any more would give too much away.

There's a real joy for gore and grossness here, a true celebration of the genre devoid of apology.  Writer / director Sean Byrne knows his stuff and alongside the shocks there's a tight plot and tighter direction, which never lets up, as the film heads for its blood-soaked climax.

“It's a terrifying masterpiece that turns high school drama into a literal dead zone.” Indiewire

“Byrne announces his emphatic arrival with this movie. Australian horror has another distinctive new voice.” Sydney Morning Herald

This is an evolving journey through painting, drawing, curious objects and stitched works, that speaks of impermanence, the details and forces of nature and their translation into becoming Australian.

The exhibition will coincide with the launch of a book featuring Lesley's work, Lesley Meaney Becoming Australian an Artist's Journey. All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to support a brighter future for children with brain cancer.

Description

SOUL-GOSPEL-ELECTRO-BLUEZ ARTIST, ABBE MAY, IS ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S MOST RESPECTED SONGWRITERS AND PERFORMERS.

Abbe is also one of Australia’s most authentic and open-hearted artists, sharing freely the interior of her life with her fellow travellers on this planet.

Abbe May spent her late teens and early twenties performing in Australia’s most notorious rock venues and busted up studios, touring relentlessly in unreliable tour vans in various solo and band incarnations. With sly humour, Abbe graduated from her critically acclaimed early explorations of rock and blues to become a guitar-slinging, beat-driven, iconic performer with an atmospheric cocktail of sexy, indie riff-rock, gospel, soul and electronica.

Abbe is one of the strongest women of the Australian music industry with much respect across radio, blogs and venues around the country. She is an ARIA, WAM, AIR, AMP winning and nominated artist, the hand-picked guitarist for Peter Garrett’s Alter Egos and a champion of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Several of her songs have been used in worldwide marketing campaigns for Jagermeister as well as featuring in HBO’s Entourage and Jane Campion’s Top Of The Lake.

Abbe is known as a phenomenal singer, songwriter and guitarist, a poetic, insightful, hard-hitting lyricist, performer and visual artist who harnesses and openly expresses her sexuality without shame. She spent the past four years creating her fifth studio album “FRUIT”, released on February 2, 2018, and it is her most succinct and powerful declaration of identity yet. A melodic, upbeat and soulful collection of songs made to honour the lives of those who don’t quite know how to stand in line.
