It is Hoodoo Gurus evocative and relatable lyricism, peerless song writing - with a hint of punk attitude - placed in a distinctively Australian context that has provided a careful balance of critical success and enduring mainstream appeal for 40 years.

Since their formation in 1981, Hoodoo Gurus’ boast 9 x ARIA Top 20 albums, 9 x ARIA Top 40 singles and a swag of multi-platinum albums – they’re mainstays on the live scene, and perpetually influential to a new generation of artists.

Hailing from the US and known worldwide for mega hits like ‘Bohemian Like You’ and pop culture classic, ‘We Used To Be Friends’, the band recently celebrated their own 25th anniversary in 2019. From countless global tours, to playing to over 100,000 punters at the 2000 Glastonbury Festival and even taking to the stage during the Greek riots, the Warhols are no stranger to putting on a show. With one hell of a back catalogue and a live presence that has stood the test of time, this pairing of forces is one you don’t want to miss.

The works in this exhibition praise the enchanted cacophony available to us when we take the time to truly interact with nature and remind us at the same time of its bounty and unnerving fragility. These works, depicting familiar plants and insects, are alive with colour explosions and vibration. Rogers has invented hybrid plants that display new features and different characteristics from their parents, becoming something altogether new. In a series of her botanical bestiary, she has built insects from the same plants that uses them as pollinators to show that they are dependent on each others’ well-being. The works are meant to amuse, but they also symbolize the abundance of creation. Similarly in 1590, Giuseppe Arcimboldo painted his royal patron, the Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II, as a heap of fruits and vegetables, with pea pod eyelids and a gourd for a forehead. Watercolour paintings and mixed media sculptures are on show.

Midland Gecko Ensembles are on sale for Term 4!

Gecko Ensembles are Barking Gecko Theatre's weekly drama classes for children. It’s where self-expression leads to self-confidence, stretching their imaginations in exciting directions. Gecko Ensembles question, explore, imagine and create.

Gecko Ensembles focus on the learning that comes from engaging with drama processes, rather than focussing on an end of term production. Through exploring some of life's big questions children develop collaboration and communication skills and build resilience and empathy. They challenge themselves, listen to each other, learn new skills and most importantly, have fun!

Gecko Ensembles celebrate children’s diverse ideas, interests and imagination. Children act as our creative consultants, exploring the same content as Barking Gecko’s artistic teams are exploring in our rehearsal rooms.

At Barking Gecko Theatre we believe when children’s creativity is nurtured, their potential is endless!
