Sir James Mitchell Park

Sir James Mitchell Park is a park along the southern foreshore of Perth and lies within the suburb of South Perth from Mends Street Jetty, to just south of Heirisson Island.

Details

  • Natural Attractions:Local Parks & Gardens

Description

It is named after Sir James Mitchell, the 13th Premier of Western Australia

It was formerly a riverside area with a number of issues regarding management. In the 1950s market gardens were closed in the area.

Since the 1970's considerable effort has been made to improve amenity, access and environmental issues.
The South Perth City Council considers the park, or parts of it to be suitable for hire, and it has hosted numerous events since its improvements and landscaping.

South Perth Foreshore

The South Perth Foreshore is an iconic tourist destination with views of Perth city across the Swan River.

Details

  • Facilities:Picnic Facilities
  • Natural Attractions:Local Parks & Gardens

Description

South Perth foreshore incorporates Sir James Mitchell Park, South Perth Esplanade Reserve, Mill Point Reserve and Clydesdale Reserve.

For those looking for something active, there’s plenty of open space to kick a football, play cricket, fly a kite, walk your dog or work up a sweat on the walking or cycle paths. Access to the river is available at Coode Street beaches and boat ramp, Mends Street beach and at Mill Point near the Narrows Bridge. The Scented Gardens at the western end of Sir James Mitchell Park near Mends Street offer a quiet escape to sit and relax, as do the lakes area near Douglas and Hurlingham Avenues. There are picnic tables, barbecues, toilets, cafes and four children’s playgrounds on the foreshore.
