Description

Produced by the legendary Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam) alongside Bernard Fanning, and backed by a dream studio band (Declan Kelly on drums, Wolfmother's Ian Peres on keyboards, Matt Englebrecht on bass, and Dan Kelly on guitar), on Black And Blue Heart Russell continues to find unique ways to challenge himself creatively.

When Russell send his Black And Blue Heart demos to Nick Didia and Bernard Fanning, the two producers were blown away. They rang him back almost immediately, saying they could not stop listening to the songs.

Speaking of the title track, Bernard Fanning says it's "a song for the ages" - a song, he hopes, will live on with the best.

Born and bred in the USA, throughout the recording process Nick DiDia learnt of Russells's Australian classic hits 'The Real Thing', 'Wings Of An Eagle', and 'Sweet Sweet Love'. and was blown away. "I was hearing this amazing history for the first time as we were making the record", he says.

After six decades on the road, an album can almost write itself, but it takes a rare combination of talent and circumstances to rtealise that bision as vividly as Russell Morris does on Black And Blue Heart.

Description

Supermoon Den are excited and very proud to be announcing the release of their second album; Rise.

Supermoon Den are a group of accomplished musicians who have worked relentlessly towards creating a dynamic sound which consists of a blend of indie folk, classic & modern rock with a slight and gentle twist of old school country. This album was recorded and produced organically with James Newhouse at Lamb Chop studio in the South West. The band worked tirelessly to deliver captivating performances to give life to the songs on their new album.

Rise has taken a different approach from the first self-titled album which was more of a solo effort. Rise was recorded in collaboratively with good mates, good intentions and lots of passion and pride. It is an eclectic mix of sounds and songs that tell stories and tales invoking emotions between the beauty and reality of the struggle of life.

The band has taken a classic recording approach to this album, every element of each song was recorded live focusing on sound purity performed by real people using real instruments.

Supermoon Den’s sound is melodic and supported by rich tones and lush textures.

Supermoon Den consists of Denis Belliveau, Frank Rosetti, Sean Ryan, Francis Fragomeni, Frank Bempasciuto and Angelo Modafferi.

Supermoon Den will be joined by special guests The Rivers and Maurice Flavel’s Intensive Care on November 8, at the infamous Indian Ocean Hotel.

Description

Homegrown rock favourites Hands Like Houses have lifted the lid on a stunning new version of their track 'Through Glass' – taken from from their critically acclaimed 2018 album - Anon. – this time with rising Melbourne pop artist Samsaruh adding vocals. If the original of 'Through Glass' wasn't enough of a modern rock earworm already, Samsaruh breathes new life into the track with her delicate vocals and pop flavour.

Alongside the new music comes the announcement that Hands Like Houses will embark on a whopping 20-stop regional Australian tour through October and November. A year on from bagging the coveted triple j Feature Album packet and peaking at #4 on the ARIAs with - Anon., the band are hardly leaving a corner of the country unturned and will trek as far as Margaret River, Cairns and Hobart as part of the tour.

Hands Like Houses vocalist Trenton Woodley explains that since its very inception, 'Through Glass' felt like a two person narrative, and the band were keen to bring someone from outside of the "rock" sphere to take on the other side of the story.

"[We wanted] someone that would bring their own style and flavour to a song we were already immensely proud of," he adds. "We were lucky enough to cross connections with Samsaruh, an incredible emerging artist in her own right, and she was an absolute gem to work with, bringing a new sense of urgency, passion and atmosphere that made 'Through Glass' feel like it was always meant to be this way.”

30 Years of The Meanies - Indian Ocean Hotel

Description

To hail 25 years since the release of their influential LP 10% Weird and a whopping 30 years as a band, Australian punk titans The Meanies have summoned the band back into Australia from all over the world to embark on a huge national tour, bringing acts like Tumbleweed, Civic, Glitoris and Dicklord along for the ride.

Treating punters to a live set stacked with tunes from their hefty back catalogue, the tour will kick off with a matinee show on Cup Day, Tuesday November 5 at the Corner, before zigzagging across Australia, playing shows in Castlemaine, NSW, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.

It was May 1989 when The Meanies first moved their music out of their rehearsal space and onto the stage, and fast became notorious as the most unruly and savage punk act the country had seen. Countless live shows saw the band cultivate a formidable local following and play with a veritable stack of international heavyweights, like NirvanaPearl JamBad Brains and Beastie Boys, to name a few.

Five years later and 10% Weird belted through the punk-rock stratosphere and into the laps of punk fans across the country. Released via Au Go Go, Munster Records (ES), Subway Records (DE) and Frontier Records (USA), the LP has long been regarded as the band’s magnum opus, an album symbolic of Melbourne’s chaotic beer-drenched punk-rock scene of the time and a record cited by countless bands as a major influence.

Fast-forward to 2019, and the band have flown into the country from all over the world to celebrate 30 years of recklessness, broken bones, excessive boozing and busted eardrums.

Tickets to The Meanies are on sale now.

Description

Following a string of successful 2019 releases, Byron Bay indie-rockers Seaside are at it again with blistering new single ‘Joyride’.

Mixed by Konstantin Kersting (The Belligerents, The Jungle Giants, WAAX) and mastered by George Geogiadis (Last Dinosaurs, Charlie Collins, Gang Of Youths), ‘Joyride’ adds a faster, post-punk tinge to the bands already broad sonic palette. Recorded at Rocking Horse studios in the beautiful Byron Bay hinterland with engineer Paul Pilseniks (Powderfinger, The Living End, Angus & Julia Stone), the song is written about "anyone who puts you down", explains frontwoman Darcy Dexter, "and the strength it takes to leave a toxic situation".

The single comes following a busy live schedule which has seen them touring nationally with the likes of Last Dinosaurs and Angus & Julia Stone as well as a slew of festival appearances at Splendour in the Grass, Party in the Paddock, Grampians Music Festival and 2019’s BIGSOUND.

‘Joyride’ is the first single off Seaside's highly anticipated forthcoming debut album, slated for release early 2020. Catch an early preview on their national tour. Limited tickets available now.

Jacob de Gaye - Baddest Summer- (debut album launch show)

This December… Jacob de Gaye will be dropping his debut album BADDEST SUMMER from the sky…

  • Dates:Dec 28
  • Time(s):TBC
  • Venue:Indian Ocean Hotel

Details

  • Type:Music
  • Audience:Adults
  • Music:Gig Guide

Description

This December… Jacob de Gaye will be dropping his debut album BADDEST SUMMER from the sky… Literally…
Jacob will be sky diving for the first time ever over Rottnest Island to bring the album down to the earth in an act of letting go of all fear and diving in complete surrender to his artistry.

This is the long awaited and highly anticipated album launch show at Jacob’s spiritual live music home the Indian Ocean Hotel Scarborough the place where Jacob honed his chops and carved out his vision as a musician in the early days.

This live show will bring to the stage the Baddest Summer album in it’s entirety with Jacob, known for his showmanship, raw talent, incomparable voice, conscious lyrics, electrifying movement and spine tingling guitar solos, vowing that this show will be a truly entertaining experience where you will see him take things to the next “level”.

The concept of the album is centred around the made up (for now…) 80’s arcade style video game “Baddest Summer” and all the tracks are the different “levels” of the “game”.

Just as levels on a video game are completely different in many ways, the album represents complete artistic freedom in the way that every single track is completely different in genre, feel and vibe and complete independence as an artist in the way that there has been no filter in the making of this album, no judgements, just straight from the ether through Jacob to the wax for the love of music and most of all for fun.

Imagine a full immersion video game in which, upon entry, the player’s memory that they are in a full immersion game is wiped… Imagine a game where the player has free will and is not given a clear set of rules… Imagine the purpose (which is revealed by new inner voice technology in the full immersion suit) of the game is called “dream achievement” and to achieve this purpose the player must become a superstar musician within the spawn life span of the character… Imagine to win the game of Baddest Summer the player (whilst achieving their purpose) must convert all of the darkness in their character to light and then convert as much darkness in the game field to light as possible (The more darkness converted the higher the score)…Imagine a game where the player must find the two tools to assist them with bringing light to the game world the “Emerald Voice” the “Golden Guitar” but these tools are hidden and can only be found in two different secret chambers whose keys are hidden in the hardest place to find on the game map… To unlock secret levels and bonus rounds the player must show strength in the simulated game field as most other players think it’s cool and normal to be 'bad' and live in darkness as they are ignoring their inner voice technology… The player must win strength points and collect good mana by playing the game with positivity, creativity, love, unity, motivation, wholesome living and high health vitality… Playing in the opposite to this will result in bad mana collection and points being taken off… Acquiring 10 strength points will unlock the real “BAD ASS” mode.

Finally imagine it is possible to acquire enough spirit points (by spending time in the game to work on the character and discovering the character’s connection to the great energy source behind the game, the source that keeps the game running) to leave the character astrally and remember you are just in a game and then you can stop taking it so seriously and have fun and not be scared of re-spawning… This is Baddest Summer

“In this album I’m trying to bottle the atmosphere that an arcade game creates mixed with the eary, mighty, almost scary anticipation and stillness just as the night falls before a stadium show when the smoke is rolling over the stage and the lights are low, the smell of 50 thousand excited souls in the air mixed with smooshed grass, the faint whiff of an intoxicating purfume that you will never forget and the state of ecstasy of being in the moment feeling as if the moment will last forever” - Jacob.

The album effortlessly fuses RnB, Rap, Hip Hop, Reggae, Rock, Pop, Funk, Arcade electronic and psychedelic to bring a unique, eclectic and unprecedented style of music to the universe’s soundscape.

In conclusion, Baddest Summer is centered around a notion that in a world where a lot of people think it’s normal and cool to do bad things to ourselves, others and our earth… The real 'BAD ASS’ life is positivity, creativity, love, unity, motivation, wholesome living and health.

The release of the first 5 tracks “Drop a bomb”, “Baddest Summer” (Title track), "Fool for so long", "Screens thats black" and West Australian Music Industry Song of the year nominated "Repeat after me I am free" has been met with huge buzz, even prompting a couple of talented young up and coming documentary makers Kuda Juru and Joe Hinton to start documenting the last few months leading up to the launch.

It’s time for the Baddest Summer show…

Jacob is very excited to have his current two favourite acts in Perth Bag of Bones and 506 as the supports for the show!

BAG OF BONES:

Bag of bones are a blues punk two piece who have been making waves over the last year with raw loud drums and fuzzy guitars. Definitely ones to get people moving.

506:

Artist & Producer. ... 506 is known for his versatility and high energy performances whether it be melodic conscious rap or heavy 808 traps.

Yawning Man Tour - Indian Ocean Hotel

Description

Desert Rock pioneers YAWNING MAN will finally make a soaring flight to our shores for a long-awaited tour of Australia and New Zealand in January 2020.

Forming in 1986, Yawning Man have released 7 studio albums and 5 split LPs/EPs. The latest releases, 'The Revolt Against Tired Noises' and 'Macedonian Lines', won over critics from the desert plains to across the oceans. This is not just due to the fact that Brant Bjork once said that "Yawning Man is the sickest band of all time:", or "They're the greatest band I've ever seen". Without the band and their commitment to the initiation of the first ever
Generator Parties back in the 80s and 90s, Kyuss, QOTSA, Somali Yacht Club and Garcia’s many projects (including Sloburn and Unida) would not exist without this revolutionary
band.

The trio, featuring Mario Lalli (Bass), Gary Arce (Guitar/Vocals) and now Bill Stinson (Drums), have crafted one of the most unique blends of Psychedelic, Post and Desert Rock, which can only be described in human language as YAWNING MAN.

The sound of Yawning Man stems from the Earth’s soul. While Gaia sends out signals to our spiritual ancestors and elders, the sound of the instruments gradually gather all of us in the
moment, and the hypnotic mantras naturally enable the spread of love with the instruments of life we have.

Reviews of 'Macedonian Lines'

“It's probably hard work to sound this effortless. Or maybe it's the payoff from years of hard work completed. Like on "Melancholic Sade", the bass lines are almost halting, yet they never interrupt the flow, as if teasingly testing what unusual shapes can be twisted into
looking like elegant curves.”

Owen - Echoes and Dust
“As they ascend to their rightful place in the forefront of Desert Rock consciousness, their ongoing progression seems bound to inspire yet another generation of players.

J J Koczan - The Obelisk

Joining these Desert Rock Masters is Australian Psychedelic Prog Rockers NUMIDIA, who will support YAWNING MAN for the entire tour across both OZ and NZ. New blood to the Psych/Prog Scene, NUMIDIA write beautifully crafted songs taking influence from Middle Eastern Psychedelic Rock, African Blues and American Folk, collaborating as a six-piece revolution of unity and love in music.
