Drop down a gear…. Enjoy a breath of fresh air and discover a whole new world in the heart of the hills, just 40 minutes from Perth.

Immerse yourself in nature. Walk or cycle some amazing trails, take a scenic drive through spectacular State forest, enjoy the region’s arts, history and culture, or simply throw down the picnic blanket and chill out in a secluded spot, tucked away from the world.

The Shire of Mundaring covers an area of 644 sq. km and one third of its total area is State Forest. Our villages are steeped in a rich history, closely linked by the old railway line that is now the fabulous Railway Reserves Heritage Trail stretching some 59kms through the shire. The amazing engineering feat that is the Mundaring Weir with the water pipeline to the Eastern Goldfields region is also here.

The Munda Biddi off road cycle trail starts in the town of Mundaring and there is numerous other walk and cycle trails to explore. We have a terrific range of accommodation on offer; fine food at award winning restaurants, country taverns, wineries, arts and wildlife, plus a range of exciting events on the calendar, including the very popular Mundaring Truffle Festival and Darlington Arts Festival. The Shire is also home to beautiful Lake Leschenaultia, the Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary and the Perth Hills Discovery Centre.

The Mundaring Visitor Centre

The Mundaring Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week, Mon–Sat 9.30am–4.00pm and 10.00am-2.30pm Sundays and most Public Holidays* The centre is conveniently situated in the centre of Mundaring , sharing the old school house with the Shire’s District Museum. Ample parking is available.

We have a great range of free brochures on local walk and cycle trails and we sell Munda Biddi Trail and Bibbulmun Track maps, as well as a range of local products, gifts, cards and postcards, so do come in for a browse. Our friendly staff and volunteers have a wealth of local knowledge and look forward to welcoming you.

*Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and Good Friday

Perth Airport

Perth Airport encompasses International, Domestic and General Aviation (regional travel). All aircraft movements occur on two runways located between the International and Domestic Terminals.

Description

Terminals 
The current International Terminal (T1) and Domestic Terminals 2 and 3 (T2 and T3) are operated by Perth Airport Pty Ltd.

T1 is located on the eastern side of the main runway and is positioned between this runway and a future wide-spaced parallel runway.

T2 is also located on the eastern side of the main runway. The airlines operating from Terminal 2 include Alliance Airlines, Tigerair and Virgin Australia domestic services.

T3 is located on the western side of the airfield.  Virgin Australia domestic services operate from this terminal. Passengers are able to walk between T3 and T4.

Qantas operates T4, where Qantas, QantasLink and Jetstar* domestic services arrive and depart.
*From 3 June 2014, Jetstar domestic flights will operate from Terminal 3 (T3)

Parking
There are more than 19,000 bays across the current International Terminal (T1) and Domestic Terminals (T2, T3 and T4), so while you can’t currently pre-book, there’ll always be a safe and secure space for you. 

Shopping & Eating
A number of our stores are currently undergoing renovations to create an exciting shopping and dining experience for you.             

Public Viewing Area
Enjoy a near runway experience at Perth Airport’s newly-opened outdoor viewing platform where you can watch aircraft arrivals and departures on the main runway, Runway 03/21. 

Free to the public, the viewing platform is as close as you will get to watching aircraft arrivals and departures without boarding a plane and allows people the opportunity to view the wide variety of aircraft that land at Perth Airport – from the commonly used Boeing 737 to unique aircraft such as the Antonov 124.

The Perth Hills Armadale Visitor Centre is conveniently located just off Armadale Road "Where the Highways meet" at the Junction of Albany Highway, South Western Highway and Armadale Road.

Perth Hills Discovery Centre

The Center is home of the Nearer to Nature programs and offers visitors a range of outdoor, nature based experiences to raise awareness and understanding of our forests as well as having fun.

The friendly staff at the Perth Hills Visitor Centre will provide you with a range of information on local attractions to help you enjoy your visit to the Shire of Kalamunda and Perth Hills.

Situated in the Zig Zag Cultural Centre, the Visitor Centre offers:

Up-to-date information on where to go, where to stay and what to do within the Shire of Kalamunda: this includes local maps, bushwalking guides and a comprehensive range of brochures on local attractions.
A retail outlet offering a diverse selection of quality locally-made merchandise including pottery, woodwork, bags, books, cards, arts and crafts.
Maps and information on local wineries & tasting tours.
Entry to the Kalamunda History Village.
The visitors Centre prides itself on customer service, the promotion of the region, supporting local arts and craft groups, promoting local tourism operators.

Space is available for hire to local and regional tourism operators and associated businesses at a rate of $50 per week to promote their product or service. This includes promotion on the LCD screen in the centre and can be booked for month long blocks.  For more information contact us on 9257 9998.

Shire of Kalamunda

The name Kalamunda comes from local Aboriginal words Cala (home) and Munnda (forest). Thus Kalamunda means “A home in the forest “.
