Sew Good: Sewing Classes for Beginners & Intermediates

Wanting to sew like a pro? Or never picked up a needle and thread? Whatever your skill level, we’re here to help!

After classes filled last year, our expert trainer Marisa Valentino is back to make more seam dreams a reality.

You'll need to bring your own sewing machine, but our teacher will be there to improve your skills, take your current projects to the next level, and guide you on new sewing adventures. Intermediate classes this Term will also be focusing on quilt and dress making.

Full term fees are $150 for 10 wks of classes, to be paid prior to commencement of classes, plus CAHRS membership of $25 (if not already a member).

Discover a world of stories, history and information to support classroom learning. The staff in the Education Program facilitate a diverse program of FREE guided and self-guided workshops suitable for school groups, from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students will explore the Library's collections, investigate Western Australian history and be creative with technology and storytelling, The workshops link directly to the Western Australia curriculum and run for an hour.

Weekdays during 2020 school terms dates: 9:45am, 11:00am and 12:30pm.

After a debut year of classes that was off the hook, ‘Hey Hey, Let’s Crochet’ returns for 2020!

Whether you have no idea what a magic circle is, let alone how to create one, or you’re looking for new challenges, inspiration or tips to improve, this fun, social series will bring out the best stitching in all, from beginners to intermediates.

WHEN & WHERE:
Running for the duration of TERM 1 2020 at Cannington Exhibition Centre & Showgrounds, sessions will be on Thursdays 7-9pm for 10 weeks, starting Thursday 6 February.

WHO:
Whether learning the art of crocheting to relax, to get your work exhibited and take out prizes at the Canning Show, or just to try something new, we look forward to gathering all types of yarners, from BEGINNERS to INTERMEDIATE!

INSTRUCTOR:
Pauline Greaves brings 40+ years of experience crocheting to her facilitator role, including as founder of a crochet club. Pauline will show you all the tricks of the crochet world, help with any projects, share her great ideas, and guide you to creating all sorts of wonderful woollies, beautiful blankets, or whatever your imagination may conjure.

HOW MUCH:
$100 for a full 10-week course, plus a CAHRS membership fee of $25 (if not already a member).

PLEASE BRING:
Your crochet hook and some yarn to get started. Also, your fees, if not paid beforehand.

Propel Dance | WAAPA Short Courses

Description

This after-school part-time course is designed for young students who are either intending to pursue dance as a career or who simply love dance and would like to continue to improve their dance skills. Students are taught by WAAPA staff over eight week blocks throughout the year.

Classes are challenging and include classical ballet technique, contemporary technique, choreographic and composition skills, improvisation and duo.

Entry is by audition.

Ngalaka Daa Ensemble

Hone your theatre skills with the Ngalaka Daa Ensemble workshop for students with the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company.

Description

The Ngalaka Daa Ensmeble is an exciting and unique opportunity for students to participate in an intense series of workshops and rehearsals leading to a number of curated public performance opportunities.

Following the success of our Junior Sonneteers Program, 2020 will see the expansion of our Youth Ensemble through a collaboration between Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, WAYTCo and Propel Youth Arts WA.

Driven by the sharing of Noongar language and culture, the program will provide participants with the opportunity to receive intensive individual development in theatre making, performance and language skills at a professional level.

Successful participants will partake in a series of workshops and rehearsals leading to a number of curated public performance opportunities.

As a member of the Ngalaka Daa Ensemble participants will gain access to training with industry leaders including performance preparation, vocal techniques, movement techniques / physicality, Noongar language (comprehension and articulation), acting techniques (various forms and styles), monologues, dialogues and ensemble work, embodiment of text and Noongar physical theatre processes.

In addition to providing people with opportunities to participate in the arts, the Youth Ensemble program is also an avenue in promoting the sustainability of one of the oldest languages on the planet, while promoting cultural awareness and reconciliation, along with a greater sense of connection and understanding of the community they live in.

After an upbringing where creativity and self-expression were encouraged. I fell into the conditioning of society and started following a traditional career path. Find an office job, work your way up. Done. I wasn't feeling fullied. I was searching for a creative expression that I felt passionate about. Ceramics was it.

Lien Nguyen Ceramics is all about creating an environment and experience for people to reconnect and explore their creativity. Exploring ceramics with functionality and sustainability in mind.
