What we do

Optiro is an advisory services firm that provides strategic, independent advice to mining and exploration companies, their advisors and investors. Our services as detailed throughout this website include:

mine engineering design, study analysis and audit to provide operational strategies and process improvements aimed at optimising mining operations
mining project valuation, financial analysis, risk appetite determination, due-diligence and financial optimisation
audits and reviews including compliance audits, benchmarking reviews, operating and capital cost
strategic and operational optimisation of mining activities with specialist scenario analysis designed to improved sustainable financial outcomes for mining projects
corporate advisory services leading to full transaction support and fundraising for mining projects
knowledge transfer activities, including structured learning, training and mentoring
provision of specialist software to streamline resource evaluation with accuracy and confidence.
Our history

We started the Optiro business in 2008.

The team that started the business was the management team of one of the better known international mining consultancy practices.  The six people that started the business had individually been working in mining for periods between 20 and 40 years.

Our decision to start the business was because we wanted to start a consultancy that had a fresh approach.  One that was a boutique practice that offered high value add to clients through better aligning our technical expertise to their business objectives.  We had seen in the boom leading to the market crash in 2008 that companies were being founded on a lot of waste.  Mining assets were overpriced at purchase and the operational cost structures were eating into margins at an alarming rate.  We felt there was room for an advisory firm that had efficiency and optimisation focus that would lead to better outcomes and higher value for our clients.  Coupled with this we felt there needed to be more emphasis on de-risking mining investment decisions.  Making better decisions and being more certain about them by understanding the risk also aligned to the optimisation theme.  It’s not all we do but it is at our core.

With an idea we went on the search for a name.  We wanted our name to be simple, short, unique and easy to say (phonetic).  We often get asked how the name Optiro came about. Well the answer to this is simple.  Our business is about OPTImising ResOurces.  That was the genesis of the name.  The name is unique; in fact we own the trademark to it.  We think it’s easy to say and hope one day it’s so well-known everyone is used to it.

And what about that ‘hat’ on the O?  There is a story behind that too.  As said earlier, the business had a risk focus and our mantra was to reduce uncertainty by making decisions that were more accurate.  How better to display that than the concept of the normal distribution curve we thought.  Our business is about getting you to the median at the peak of the curve, increasing confidence and reducing deviation, so we drew the Optiro name under a standard deviation curve.  The crude logo concepts shown below are some of the original sketches.  As you can see this design was so ugly, it was dropped! However the principle remained with the simplest of distributions ‘the triangular distribution curve’ now residing atop the Optiro ‘O’.

  • Local Clubs:Food & Wine,Social Club

Details

  • Industry & Politics:Industry Assn

Description

Working to help ‘bridge the gap’ between city and country WA, the Society’s activities are focused on showcasing the many and varied achievements of rural Western Australia. Since the founding of the Society in 1831, RASWA has successfully encouraged and assisted the development of Western Australian resources – including agricultural, horticultural, viticultural, industrial, rural, technological, commercial and mineral resources.

Operating under the Royal Agricultural Society Act, the Society plays a key role in agricultural shows and rural events around the State. We have close links to regional agricultural societies and livestock breed societies. We support community and junior sporting groups which use Claremont Showground.

We encourage regional and agricultural students through our involvement in educational scholarships and competitions which enhance the skills and opportunities of young people.

We recognise the achievements of individuals through the Agricultural Hall of Fame, the Rural Community Achiever and the Rural Ambassador awards.

RASWA holds freehold title to the land at Claremont and its tenure is enshrined in an Act of Parliament. With that comes an obligation and a responsibility to utilise the grounds to its best advantage. Accordingly RASWA’s vision is to have these grounds, with their strategic location, not only a focal point for showcasing the best of rural Western Australia, but a year round centre for innovation, education and entertainment.

Each year Claremont Showground hosts a diverse range of events, exhibitions and festivals in a variety of pavilions, function / seminar rooms, arena and outdoor areas.

RASWA is also responsible for the organisation and management of Western Australia’s largest annual community event, the Perth Royal Show. Like no other event, the Perth Royal Show is a show for the people – a great example of how the RAS serves the community and achieves its mission objectives. The Perth Royal Show competitions benchmark excellence across a range of industries including livestock, wine making, beer production, dairy, food production, clothing production, the arts and sport.
