Cape Bouvard Winery & Brewery is the only winery in the Mandurah shire. A destination the family will love, make a day of tasting delicious boutique wines and beers, indulging on a local seafood and discovering host of unique natural attractions at the property including the Thrombolites; the world’s first life form.

The name of the winery comes from WA’s early history. When French sailors discovered Western Australia in 1801, they named the area "Cape of Bouvard" after French astronomer Alexis Bouvard. The name lives on at Cape Bouvard Winery & Brewery.

The Wines & Wine Tasting

White varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay and a Classic White, and reds include Merlot, Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are available for tasting at the cellar door and winery and brewery tours can also be arranged in advance.

The Food

With a motto that good quality food shouldn’t cost the earth, Cape Bouvard serves up modern Australian, café and relaxed restaurant style food featuring local produce wherever possible. Their alfresco overlooks the picturesque vineyards, forest and lawn while the signature indoor log fire is perfect for winter. Open for lunch Tuesday-Sunday.

Unique Highlights

Lake Clifton is home to unique Thrombolites (living rocks), and this is one of only two places in Western Australia that are home to the world's first life form. There is a special look out platform to fully appreciate these fascinating structures. The winery is also bordered by the Yalgorup National Park, home to a plethora of tuart and peppermint woodlands.

Kids are welcome. Pack a frisbee, cricket or bocce set to make the most of the expansive lawns.

As Kalamunda locals, Dennis and Carline Humphrey are no strangers to the terrain of the Perth Hills. With encouragement from local wine guru Peter Fimmel, Chardonnay and Semillon varieties were first planted in 1998 on the famous Red Gum soil high on the western ridge of the Bickley Valley.

The Wines

Carldenn Homestead Wines offer an expansive variety of reds, whites and sparkling wines designed to appeal to any palette. Each vintage has a unique character with different complexities, from the fresh fruit and creamy finish of the unwooded Chardonnay to the full-bodied, bold and delicious Shiraz.

Located amongst the bushland of Walliston, Carldenn Homestead's cellar door includes an open bar and picnic area with handcrafted jarrah tables made by Dennis himself. After eating and drinking, you are free to wander amongst the vines.

Established in the late 1870s, this family-owned property, about 6km from Toodyay has over five generations of winemaking history. The winery has been in the Wood family since 1919, and still contains many of the original 470 and 770 gallon casks within its cellar.

All grapes are grown on scenic undulating slopes around the property, and are farmed with environmental conservation as one of the winery's main values. The natural approach sees only mineral fertilisers and soil microbes used to grow chemical-free, quality grapes.

The Wines

Coorinja produces a large selection of table and fortified wines including Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet-Shiraz, Port, Sherry, Muscat, Liqueur Muscat, Ginger Wine and Marsala. The wines are handpicked by the Wood family and their friends and pressed in an old wooden basket press, following the same family tradition used for over five generations.

Unique Highlights

Coorinja is an Aboriginal word believed to mean "place of the seven springs". These natural springs surround the property. A short five minute walk down a bush track reveals remnants of the Ringa Bridge, a significant railway track built circa 1887 that was closed down in 1966.

Harris Organic Wines is an extremely friendly place. Make your way past the cat and free-range chickens to the cellar door of this small boutique winery and you can enjoy a seated tasting of organic wines with winemaker and owner Duncan Harris (a $15.00 tasting fee applies, redeemable against any wine purchases).

Sustainability is central to Harris Organic’s philosophy. The award-winning certified organic wines are made with natural yeasts and the bare minimum of additives and preservatives. The grapes are irrigated only by what they receive from the sky and Duncan never uses any pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers.

Minimal artificial energy sources are required. An underground cellar was built to obtain naturally cooler storage temperatures. The wines mature in oak barriques and hogsheads, ultimately sealed in recyclable glass bottles. Returned Harris Organic bottles receive a $1 refund per bottle.

You can learn how organic wine is made with a guided walking tour through the vineyard, underground cellar and winery, finishing with a taste of some of the very best of  Duncan's organic white wine, organic red wine and fortified sweet wines. Duncan is also licensed to distil spirits and sells his organic vodka and brandy's at the cellar door and online.

Jadran was established in 1914 by Vladimir (Wally) Radojkovich, who purchased 22 acres of land with a desire to establish a vineyard and create a winery. Since then, Jadran Wines has welcomed many generations of family members to the vineyard; most recently, Wally's grandson Paul in 1990. Jadran incorporates traditional and modern winemaking methods to create a distinctive character in the winery's expansive range which is made from fruit sourced locally and from the Western Australia's south-west. With a creative approach to winemaking, Jadran has won many medals in Wine Shows all over Australia.

Jadran Wines' range includes over 30 different fortified, still, sparkling wines and liqueurs. The collection of ports and liqueurs is bursting with interesting and exciting flavours to discover.

Father and son Stephen and Paul Radojkovich offer generous tastings of their wines, and are well known for their friendly chats, stories and knowledge. The cellar door is open 7 days a week.

Centuries of French tradition has been combined with WA’s rich soil to create a little piece of France right in the heart of the Swan Valley.  

Little River Winery prides itself on quality over quantity, producing wines with flavour and finesse using traditional French winemaking methods, no pesticides and minimum preservatives. The yield is lower due to the vineyard being non-irrigated, producing a higher concentration of flavour in smaller batches.

Alongside Little River Winery is the Little River Café, in which guests can accompany fine French wine with authentic French-inspired mouth-watering meals. Neira and Lucy have constructed a menu packed full of both light nibbles and hearty dishes for a delicious, unforgettable lunch. Relax in the charming, cosy café or overlook the luscious vineyard in the small but sweet courtyard. 

The unique and rustic winery also offers a beautiful, intimate setting for private, evening functions. Be wined and dined alongside the vineyard while taking in the ambience of the scenic Swan Valley.

Lunches are available every day except Wednesday and Thursday, from 12.00 pm - 4.00 pm weekdays and 12.00 pm - 5.00 pm weekends. Evening functions can also be booked.


Grapes are carefully hand harvested and crushed immediately, then pressed in a traditional basket press. The juice is settled for debourdage at 2°C. for at least forty eight hours. Fermentation takes place at a constant 15° C with a secret selection of yeast strain added for each wine. No sulphur dioxide is used until after the fermentation is completed.

Chardonnay, Viognier and Marsanne are never wooded, but are kept on the fine lees, after a first racking, for several months. Noble Classic undergo a subtle wood aging for a short period.White Wines are usually bottled after eight months.

Vatting of the reds varies from year to year but is never less than two weeks and can be for up to a month. After vatting a light pressing is done after which the wine settles and undergoes malolactic fermentation in closed stainless steel tanks at between 15° and 18°C.

After a month or so the wines are transferred into French oak barrique for between fifteen and twenty four months.

The Olive Farm property dates back to 1829 and was established by an English botanist named Thomas Waters who brought grapevine cuttings and olive trees with him when he settled in Perth. He planted the olive trees first, hence the name, but wine was soon produced, with the first vintage in 1834. (Much of which became currency for bartering with the local shopkeepers!)

In 1933, Ivan Yurisich purchased the property. He had immigrated from Yugoslavia at the turn of the century and after working in the Goldfields and outback of WA, decided to try his hand at winemaking. The property has remained in the family for four generations.

The Wines
Historically, The Olive Farm made fortified wines which were sold by the cask to the Goldfields in Western Australia. The winery become one of the first in WA to produce Traditional Method Sparkling wines back in the 1960s. These remain a core of range which is now named ‘Olivine’.

Still table wines were introduced in the 1970s and achieved great success in the local wine shows. The current range is diverse, with over 35 sweet to dry white, red, sparkling and fortified wines. There are all the Swan Valley classics, along with some other surprise varieties like Tempranillo, Traminer, Durif and Cabernet Franc.

Wine Tasting
The Yurisich family built their ‘dream’ winery and cellar door in 2007. It is set on a 24-acre property in the heart of the Swan Valley and has received significant awards for its architecture and interior design. Visitors are welcome to sample from the full range of wines, with tastings available 10am – 5pm daily. A walking tour of the vineyard and winery can be booked in advance, it begins at 10.30am.

Unique Highlights: The Cheese
Taste and graze from a selection of over 75+ different international and local benchmark cheeses at the family’s Cheese Barrel Café. Just metres from the cellar door, this architecturally-designed gem of a property is a place of wine and cheese-lovers’ dreams. The all-day menu is both flexible and generous, with cheeseboards starting from $35-$40. Free cheese tastings are available too. They are best experienced between 10am and 1pm before it gets too busy. Families, children and even dogs are welcome.

The Cheese Barrel Café is open 10am – 5pm Monday and Tuesday, and 10am-5pm Wednesday to Sunday.

Defined as Sicilian passion with an Australian twist, Paul Conti wines was once a family home to eight children and is now a modern winery with restaurant.

Located only 30 minutes north of Perth, the Woodvale property is an oasis of fruit and olive trees, manicured gardens and stunning rose bushes among the ever-expanding urban sprawl, a special retreat from the every-day grind.


The cellar door is located below the oasis of fruit, olive trees and manicured gardens, enveloped in the scents of oak barrels and fermenting wine. The below ground cellar door features all Paul Conti products plus exclusives to the cellar door. Visitors are welcome to sit outdoors in the alfresco area which hosts quarterly events with the opportunity to try the full wine range. Cheese and charcuterie platters are also available in the veranda area but must be advised in advance. The Cellar door is open Monday to Saturday 11am to 5pm.


Conti’s Restaurant has been consistently nominated as one of the State’s ‘Best Restaurants at a Winery’ since 1998.

Originally built in 1928 as the original family home that Paul shared with his parents and seven siblings, in 1982 the home was renovated into the fine dining restaurant, with high ceilings, original antique fixtures and jarrah floor boards.

A regular haunt for local clientele, The roomy layout, high ceilings and forgiving stone walls cool during the summer, while the pot-belly fire and cosy entrance lounge makes the restaurant equally popular in winter,

The menu has a local-produce focus including fresh oysters, roast duck breast, garlic prawns, carpet-bag steak and succulent veal rib-eye.

The restaurant is only open Friday for lunch, and Wednesday though to Saturday for dinner. The restaurant is also popular for intimate wedding celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays and business luncheons.


From humble beginnings in 1948, Paul Conti Wines has become one of WA’s most reputable and respected boutique, family-owned wineries.

Before it was a winery, in 1927 the Woodvale property was home to the Conti family who lived their self-sufficient lifestyle of growing vegetables, making pasta, cheese and milk from the resident cow to nurturing vines to create wine. In the 1940’s Carmelo Conti begun planting vines to expand to a modest sized vineyard whereby the cellar was located underneath the family house, dug out by the Conti brothers, still existing today.

From 1968 Carmelo’s son Paul began upgrading the small winery to a larger more premium winery where early success was achieved with the Shiraz. The wines to this day are still created with some of the original vines planted on the property.

An integral part of the Peel Region for over 40 years, the first vines at Peel Estate were planted in 1973. Owned and operated by Will Nairn, the winery features 12 acres of vines, and its unique coastal limestone soils and high-water table provide ideal viticulture conditions. Nestled among the vines on a gently winding road near the upper reaches of the Swan River lies one of the jewels of the historic Swan Valley.

Founded by Simon and Maaike Berns in 1998 and named after a small Australian bird which abounds in the nearby tree-lined Swan River, Sittella Winery is one of the newest wineries in the Swan Valley.

Sittella’s Swan Valley vineyard thrives on the fertile soils and Mediterranean climate of hot dry summers and mild wet winters, producing a range of rich, full flavoured wines. Simon and Maaike Berns have been successful in producing high quality traditional wine styles using Verdelho, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Tempanillo and Petit Verdot, and now source grapes from other vineyards in the Swan Valley, their own Margaret River property and and Franklyn River in the Great Southern.  Over the past five years, production has increased dramatically with a crush of over 100 tonnes.

Maaike is responsible for the imaginative architecture of the restaurant, incorporating the essence of modern Italy into this wonderful earth-rendered winery.

The winery and Restaurant is open from 11:00am to 4:00pm Tuesdays – Sundays and public holidays.


The Sittella Vineyard is located on a stretch of fertile land 20 km north-east of Perth. In this upper river district, with the Darling Ranges to the east and the Indian Ocean to the west, the warm Mediterranean style climate provides steady winter rainfall and hot, dry summers which produce grapes of wonderful flavour, richness, balance and style. The water supply is a trickle system using bore water. Verdelho, Chardonnay, Shiraz, vines grow over a 5 hectare allotment on rich alluvial sandy loam soils (3 hectares under vine). Recent plantings also include Tempranillo, and Petit Verdot.


Located at Willyabrup, 260 kms south west of Perth. The region’s temperate southern climate has been likened to Bordeaux with its generous winter rainfall, freedom from spring frosts and subdued summer temperatures – the ideal growing conditions for international wine styles. With 2.5 hectares of undulating land and soils are amongst the best in the area. Comprised of red brown loam with some gravel that ensures good natural drainage. Varieties include Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc and more recently Malbec to develop a classic red Blend.

Croatian-born Jim Talijancich and his wife Ljucibica purchased this Swan Valley property in 1932 and began making fortified wine from Muscat and Shiraz. Times were tough in those early years and were made tougher upon Jim’s passing, when son Peter was just 13 years old. Peter ceased schooling immediately to work with his mother on the vineyard, the horse and plough becoming one of his new regular tasks. Peter led all operations and winemaking for over 50 years until he passed Talijancich onto son his James and wife Hilda in 1998.

The Wines
Talijancich has a long-term reputation as a fortified wine specialist. Their range includes a 30 Year Old Rare Tawny, Muscat and Pedro Ximenes Liqueur. There is also a selection of still red and white wines including a beautiful Verdelho and an old-vine Shiraz. The vineyard follows bio-dynamic, organic principles.

Wine Tasting
The cellar door is located in their converted winery homestead, offering a relaxed setting with lovely views. It is open from 10.30am to 4.30pm all days, except Tuesday.

Twin Hill Wines

About 10km north of Midland in the heart of the Swan Valley. Specialising in bulk dry reds, whites and fortifieds and also packaging its wine in 750ml bottles.

Mark Kraljevich and wife Dorothy run the 12-hectare Twin Hills property, which has been in the family since 1955. Prior to that time, Twin Hills was a winery located in the Perth foothills ù a location chosen by Mark's father Steve, who arrived from Croatia in August 1926 (age 18). The Baskerville vineyard proved much more yielding, Mark growing about 50 tonnes of fruit each year and producing a dry and sweet Verdelho, Cabernet Shiraz and Shiraz. The grapes are picked when very ripe, and Mark delivers the full-bodied and fruity wines to individual customers around Perth each week.

Valley Wines

About 7km north-east of Midland. One of the few Swan Valley vineyards to retain its pedro ximenez vines ù the grapes used in sweet and cream sherries, and sweet vermouth.

Charlie Zannino arrived in Australia from Italy as a youngster, when he, mother Mariangela, and his two siblings were re-united with father/husband Antonio ù who had migrated three years earlier ù in 1953. As a family, the Zannino's moved onto an eight-hectare property in the Swan Valley, establishing a vineyard while Antonio also worked at the Midland railway workshops. Charlie learnt about winemaking from an early age and finally took over Valley Wines, wife Sally Monti now being his partner, and Sherry, sweet Vermouth and Port being the most popular styles ù sold mostly in five, ten and 20-litre containers.
