Description

While studying oenology at university, winemaker and Chalari proprietor Alexi Christidis decided to make small batches of wine using a low-intervention, natural approach. Using fruits sourced from various locations around WA, the result is a limited production of premium, small parcels of wine.

Description

Sitting atop steep terraced slopes and surrounded by virgin bushland, Darlington Estate utilises environmentally friendly viticulture to ensure the integrity of the land, and in turn, the wine. Perfectly suited to functions (namely weddings), the main building is a stone, wood and glass construction that blends seamlessly into the natural environment.

The Wines

Varieties include Chenin, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Merlot, Shiraz and Rosé.

The Food

Darlington's award winning restaurant is known for its attractive a la carte menu, reflecting a combination of Australian and European influences. Perfectly complemented by the estate's premium wines, each dish is designed to showcase a locally sourced produce, embellished with clever accompaniments. Open for lunch Thursday-Sunday and dinner Fridays and Saturdays.

 

Jarrah Ridge Wines

Taste multi award-winning wines, marinated olives and locally made cheeses, or stroll through some of the valley’s oldest vines. Winner of the "Best Small Producer" in the valley for 2017.

Description

Jarrah Ridge was established in 1996 and the cellar door built in 2006. It is extremely relaxing, giving you the chance to enjoy some of the culinary delights of the valley, along with the full range of current release wines and some older vintages.

Owners Mark Morton and Jimmy Wong carefully source their grapes from around the state, creating world-class full-bodied reds, rich zinfandel, exotic "ice wine" and liqueur, amazing sparkling and intensely perfumed whites full of regional and varietal characters.

Jarrah Ridge recently won the "Best Small Winery" Trophy and the "Best 2016 Shiraz" Class 13, Gold Medal which enabled the pair to clinch the big "Alan Dineen Memorial" trophy at the Swan Valley Wine Show 2017.

Description

Lamont's began in the Swan Valley in the late 1970s. These days the family also operates a collection of acclaimed restaurants and cafes around WA, in Perth, Cottesloe and Margaret River.
The Lamont family began winemaking when founder Corin Lamont joined with her father Jack Mann to make wines for the family following Jack’s retirement. Jack Mann was an Australian winemaking legend who led the way at Swan Valley’s icon estate, Houghton, for over 50 years.


Wine Tasting
Lamont's has adapted over the years to create a genuine experience for both enjoying and learning about wines. The designated tasting area has a warm winery ambience and a friendly atmosphere making it a great place to spend time in the Valley. The wine list is quite diverse with over 15 wines including sparkling, dry and sweet whites and reds, and an outstanding range of fortifieds. Casual group wine tastings start from $10 per person from groups of 10 to 60 people.


The Food
Lamont's is known widely for their tapas-sized dishes that are designed to share. Tip: The Duck Parfait and Tempura Battered “Shark Bay” Whiting Fillets are classic dishes its loyal diners love! There is also a kid’s menu and tempting dessert selection. The deluxe Wine Tasting and Sit Down Rolling Tapas Lunch offers exceptional value, from just $60 per person. Open Thursday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.

Description

Settled by John Septimus Roe soon after the establishment of the Swan River Colony, Mandoon Estate has significant heritage. In the language of the local aboriginals, it means “place of many trees.”

The picturesque ground is complete with a kid’s play area and gallery located in the property’s original homestead, cellar door, microbrewery and varied eating facilities, making it a popular destination for locals and tourists looking to unwind.

In the words of Sir James Stirling: “The richness of the soil, the bright foliage of the shrubs, the majesty of the surrounding trees, the abrupt and red coloured banks of the River occasionally seen, and the view of the blue summits of the mountains from which we were not far distant, made the scenery around this spot as beautiful as anything or kind I had ever witnessed.”

Mandoon Estate is located just 30 minutes from Perth CBD and accessible by both road and river, or just a scenic helicopter flight away! Or for the ultimate weekend away, stay in one of 32 beautifully appointed rooms at the Colony.

THE WINES

A block of Verdelho was first planted in 1895 and still produces grapes today, make it one of the oldest commercially used vineyards in Western Australia.

The winery has only been producing wine since 2010, all of which can be enjoyed at the award-winning cellar door. The focus is on creating a boutique range of premium wines from well-preserved low-yielding vineyards in the Swan Valley and other regions. Varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Verdelho, Riesling, Chardonnay, Grenache, Cabernet, Cabernet Merlot and Shiraz.

THE FOOD

Executive chef Michael Hartnell oversees the fine dining restaurant offering a modern Australian menu. For a more casual experience there’s an outdoor deli and bar offering pizza, roast meat on the spit and gourmet sausages, all located next to the children’s playground and gallery.

THE ‘HOMESTEAD’ MICROBREWERY

The ‘Homestead’ microbrewery remains the only brewery of its kind in Australia, using German manufactured Schulz brewing equipment to produce unique craft ales and cider.

TOURS & FUNCTIONS

Stunning grounds, a purpose-built function centre and private wine tasting cellar makes it possible to cater for all needs: a casual meal, intimate dinner, private tastings, wedding or gala ball. A range of experiences can be organised in advance, including corporate team building, bush tucker tasting packages, private tours, river cruises and scenic chopper flights. Extend your stay at the new 32 room luxe accommodation – The Colony.

Enjoy one of 32 beautifully appointed rooms, overlooking the historic Verdelho vines and the banks of the Swan. This the perfect base from which to explore the valley, be it a lazy day on the Estate, a leisurely lunch, gourmet ramble and gallery hopping around the Valley, or bush walking and mountain biking in the nearby national parks.

Description

From our first vintage in 2013, Risky Business Wines are produced from selected low intervention vineyards, then hand-made using small batch winemaking techniques. We are based in the Great Southern and Margaret River regions in Western Australia but also source fruit for our Prosecco and Pinot Grigio from vineyards in Victoria’s King Valley.

Our wines bring together the vision and decades of experience of grape grower and viticulturist Rob Quenby, operator of Western Australia’s most diverse and prestigious viticulturist company, Quenby Viticultural Services (QVS). The Viticultural business gives Rob an opportunity to pre-select the best parcels from these great vineyards to use in the Risky Business range.

We currently produce wines with volumes as tiny as 150 cases, with some varieties up to a modest production of 800 cases.
