Details

Description

The Peel region is one of the most beautiful and most diverse regions of Western Australia. The region encompasses Mandurah, Murray (Pinjarra & Dwellingup), Waroona, Boddington and Serpentine/Jarrahdale and is the perfect destination for your natural adventures, right on Perth's doorstep.

So close to Perth but a million miles from city life, you find a massive area waiting to be explored from the Indian Ocean coastline, up rivers, across estuaries and through native bushland to the eastern escarpments. Spend your day kayaking, bush walking, off-road cycling or even on a horseback in the vast open spaces and state forests or sample local wines and produce and spot kangaroos and local wildlife. The opportunities are endless.

If you love adventures with adrenaline, there are extreme options from high speed, open water jet skiing to four wheel driving on the beach and surfing, white-water-rafting, skydiving and much more.

For those of you looking for more chilled adventures, choose from options like waterfall picnics at Serpentine Falls, hiking and mountain biking tours through jarrah forests and national parks, fine dining and visiting the region’s excellent wineries.

The Peel region is home to unique treasures of nature. There, you find the largest Thrombolites reef in the Southern Hemisphere at Lake Clifton. This natural jewel offers a glimpse into what life was like 600 million years ago.

The Peel-Harvey estuary is twice the size of Sydney harbour – imagine an aquatic playground 130 square kilometres of estuary and inland waterways.
Welcome to a world of adventure, anytime of the year.

Description

Drop down a gear…. Enjoy a breath of fresh air and discover a whole new world in the heart of the hills, just 40 minutes from Perth.

Immerse yourself in nature. Walk or cycle some amazing trails, take a scenic drive through spectacular State forest, enjoy the region’s arts, history and culture, or simply throw down the picnic blanket and chill out in a secluded spot, tucked away from the world.

The Shire of Mundaring covers an area of 644 sq. km and one third of its total area is State Forest. Our villages are steeped in a rich history, closely linked by the old railway line that is now the fabulous Railway Reserves Heritage Trail stretching some 59kms through the shire. The amazing engineering feat that is the Mundaring Weir with the water pipeline to the Eastern Goldfields region is also here.

The Munda Biddi off road cycle trail starts in the town of Mundaring and there is numerous other walk and cycle trails to explore. We have a terrific range of accommodation on offer; fine food at award winning restaurants, country taverns, wineries, arts and wildlife, plus a range of exciting events on the calendar, including the very popular Mundaring Truffle Festival and Darlington Arts Festival. The Shire is also home to beautiful Lake Leschenaultia, the Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary and the Perth Hills Discovery Centre.

The Mundaring Visitor Centre

The Mundaring Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week, Mon–Sat 9.30am–4.00pm and 10.00am-2.30pm Sundays and most Public Holidays* The centre is conveniently situated in the centre of Mundaring , sharing the old school house with the Shire’s District Museum. Ample parking is available.

We have a great range of free brochures on local walk and cycle trails and we sell Munda Biddi Trail and Bibbulmun Track maps, as well as a range of local products, gifts, cards and postcards, so do come in for a browse.
