AGWA places particular emphasis on the arts of Australia, and due to their geographic position, the Indian Ocean Rim. Their proximity and access to many of the most exciting cultures of the world adds immeasurably to programs, exhibitions, collections and events at the State Art Gallery. The Art Gallery of Western Australia, founded in 1895, occupies a precinct of three heritage buildings on the south-eastern corner of the Perth Cultural Centre. The Gallery houses the State Art Collection, which includes one of the world’s finest collections of Indigenous art, the pre-eminent collection of Western Australian art and design, as well as Australian and International art and design.

Cool Change Contemporary

Cool Change Contemporary is a new artist-run-initiative opening in the Perth CBD in August 2018.

Located within the historic Bon Marche Arcade building on Barrack Street, Cool Change Contemporary is a multi-gallery venue that will host a monthly program of exhibitions supported by regular performances, screenings, workshops and events.

Gallery at Houghton

Located in the old cellars of the Houghton winery, this small art space is the full package; visitors can dine in the cafe, taste beautiful wines and view the ever-changing exhibitions in the gallery.

The Gallery Central is part of North Metropolitan TAFE formerly Central Institute of Technology. The Gallery’s program includes exhibitions from local, national and international artists and an Artist-in-Residence Program, all within a stunningly appointed and centrally located Creative Industries training environment.

Admission is free and the Gallery Central has several spaces.
Exhibitions are accessible and relevant, appealing to a wide audience. The Gallery Central showcase a range of artists which from time to time includes the achievements of College staff, students and graduates. Creative Industries at Central teaches visual art, ceramics, jewellery, fashion and textiles, graphic design, interior design and decoration, design for industry, photography, film and TV, music, animation and multimedia.

 

John Curtin Gallery

One of Western Australia's major public art galleries and one of the largest and best-equipped university galleries in the country is located on the Bentley campus of Curtin University.

One of Western Australia's major public art galleries and one of the largest and best-equipped university galleries in the country is located on the Bentley campus of Curtin University.

The John Curtin Gallery enlivens the intellectual life of the University and its surrounding communities through exhibitions, events and public programs that explore global perspectives on contemporary art.

Through an innovative exhibition program, the John Curtin Gallery complements the international perspective of the University. Collaborating with national and international artists and curators, the Gallery contributes to the dynamic and changing culture of Australia by fostering critical dialogue.

The mission of the John Curtin Gallery is to bring to its audiences, both within Curtin University and well beyond, opportunities to experience and critically engage with the visual culture of our time.

With a view to exploring the infinite possibilities engendered by art, the exhibitions, events and public programs offered by the Gallery are a catalyst for thought, change and exchange. They provide a forum for examining our past and how it shapes our present, and for imagining the world of our future.

At the forefront of contemporary practice, the John Curtin Gallery is embraced by its audience as a centre for learning and research, and also as a place of thoughtful contemplation.

Kalamunda Modern

Kalamunda Modern is a commercial gallery exhibiting the work of professional, international artists. All artwork is unique and exclusive to Kalamunda Modern.

Description

Kalamunda Modern is housed in the most singular building in Kalamunda. The gallery's recognition is a huge, rammed earth, bobtail lizard, sculpted by Roman Antoniuk and the curved wall at the entrance to the gallery.

Kalamunda lies in the Perth hills east of the city centre. It is the gateway to nearby beauty spots and vineyards and is associated with some of Australia's greatest artists: Howard Taylor, Guy Grey-Smith, Elise Blumann and Robert Juniper.

Kalamunda Modern was inaugurated by John Day, Minister for Culture and the Arts and opened to the public on Friday 20th May 2016 exhibiting the work of international artists Georg Thumbach and Akashi Murakami.

Further exhibitions have included  the Australian glass artist Matthew Curtis and German painter Angelika Sieger, German artist Christian Heß and Australian/Danish artist Kirsten Biven and Australian artist Godfrey Blow

Kidogo Arthouse

Home to two galleries, the KIDOGO ARTHOUSE is a unique exhibition space located at the edge of the sea in Fremantle.

Description

Nestled between the town and the sea, the Heritage Listed limestone building that houses the KIDOGO ARTHOUSE was built in 1884 by Harwood and Son. 

A fixture at the edge of Bathers Beach in Fremantle, the building was originally known as the 'Dangerous Goods Store' and has served a number of purposes. At various times a kerosene storehouse, a Harbour and Lights Department warehouse and a shipwright's shed, the building was saved from near demolition in 1972 to be reborn to its present incarnation as a space for the creative arts.   

Renovated in 1974, the iconic building began its new life as a hub for the arts in 1975 with the opening of Joan Campbell's acclaimed Potter's Studio. At the hands of Founder Joanna Robertson, this renewed and much-loved landmark structure has undergone its most glorious incarnation yet as the KIDOGO ARTHOUSE.

Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery

Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, located next to the Sunken Gardens within the beautiful grounds of The University of Western Australia, is acknowledged as one of the finest university galleries in Australia.

The Gallery is a centre for critical and scholarly engagement with visual culture for the wider community as well as students and staff on campus.

The gallery presents a diverse exhibition program each year including works from the University's art collections, historical and contemporary art and travelling exhibitions. 

All exhibitions are supported by a stimulating program of artist talks, curating forums, lectures, presentations, workshops, symposia, conferences and performances and bring together practicing artists and specialists, along with teaching and research staff from the University of to engage with students on campus and the wider community.

Opened in 2016, Nest is an art and design studio set in the heart of Darlington Village, a unique and very special hills environment. Turner Galleries is one of the largest commercial galleries in Perth. There are usually two solo exhibitions on view by leading local and interstate artists.  These are changed every five weeks and the public is welcomed to attend the openings.  It's easy to be notified abou our events, just join our mailing list via our comprehensive website.

A brief history: From October 1999 to February 2006, Turner Galleries was known as The Church Gallery. For most of that time it was located at 264 Stirling Highway, in Claremont Western Australia. In December 2005 it moved to temporary premises, at 452 William Street Northbridge, not far from the city centre, whilst a new gallery space was being prepared.
In March 2007 the gallery relocated and opened with the new name Turner Galleries. The refurbished 1920's factory workshop is located at 470 William Street Northbridge, near the corner of Bulwer Street.

Turner Galleries displays a broad range of contemporary art that is unique, challenging, critical and/or experimental. This encompasses painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, installation and new technologies. The gallery is owned and directed by Helen Turner, and managed and curated by Allison Archer.

Turner Galleries is also home to an innovative artist in residence programme, and its sponsorship group, the Turner Galleries Art Angels Incorporated. 

Wanneroo Gallery

The City of Wanneroo Gallery is proud to showcase a diverse range of world-class exhibitions throughout the year, including contemporary art, local history, children's exhibitions and community art.
