Featuring a major commission created for this exhibition, Christian Thompson: Ritual Intimacy surveys Thompson’s diverse practice and is also accompanied by the first monograph on the artist’s work, including essays by Brian Catling RA and Professor Dame Marina Warner DBE, CBE, FBA, FRSL. The specially commissioned installation is an ambitious multichannel composition, developing the sonic experimentation that is a signature of Thompson’s work. Incorporating Bidjara language, it will invite viewers into an immersive space of wall-to-wall imagery and sound: “Bidjara is officially an endangered language but my work is motivated by the simple yet profound idea that if even one word of an endangered language is spoken it continues to be a living language,” Thompson says.

Description

I’m Dylan Fox, an award-winning Australian Landscape Photographer based out of Perth, Western Australia. As a West Australian Landscape Photographer, I take great pride in showcasing what this stunning part of the world has to offer. Traveling within Australia and overseas however provides new opportunities and to bring those experiences back with me. My online gallery consists of my finest landscape photography from Australia and the United States of America. This online gallery displays my award-winning collection and offers my prints for sale in a variety of sizes sure to suit your need. I supply artwork to homes and commercial spaces in Perth, Australia and abroad.

I have always loved to have a camera in my hands for as long as I can remember. On family trips I can recall racing through rolls of film on my mum’s Canon SLR, capturing nothing in particular and using up excessive amounts of film in the process. Having always loved to travel and witness natures finest moments, it was only a matter of time before I started capturing those moments in the form of photographs. It was on a year 12 photography camp where we were assigned the task of capturing a few landscape images for our portfolios. Ever since that first sunrise shoot on Rottnest Island I have been hooked. Needless to say I spent the rest of that trip cycling the Island in search of my next Landscape photograph.

Perth has provided me with an amazing coastline in which to learn and develop my skills as a photographer. The beaches along the West Australian coast have played a major part in my life and a significant role in my photographic career.

My eyes are now forever watching the sky’s and keeping an eye on local weather maps in hope of capturing something special. The satisfaction of capturing an amazing location under the perfect light is a feeling I strive for constantly. When all the elements come together it makes for a moment in time that I may never forget. Capturing those moments allows me to show people what they may have otherwise have missed.

My aim is always to capture photographs that provoke emotional connections from those that view them. The photograph must tell a story and truly captivate those that see it.

A fixture at the edge of Bathers Beach in Fremantle, the building was originally known as the 'Dangerous Goods Store' and has served a number of purposes. At various times a kerosene storehouse, a Harbour and Lights Department warehouse and a shipwright's shed, the building was saved from near demolition in 1972 to be reborn to its present incarnation as a space for the creative arts.

Renovated in 1974, the iconic building began its new life as a hub for the arts in 1975 with the opening of Joan Campbell's acclaimed Potter's Studio. At the hands of Founder Joanna Robertson, this renewed and much-loved landmark structure has undergone its most glorious incarnation yet as the KIDOGO ARTHOUSE.

Description

Innovative and experimental visual artist Lisa Payton of Lisa Payton Creative Arts explores mixed media techniques to create evocative and inspirational artworks.

Local Artists first exhibition at the Mandurah Convention Centre

Mandurah Convention Centre proudly hosts Lisa Payton Creative Arts and her new exhibition “Abstract Earth Art” which explores through paint many of the natural phenomena connected to Australia’s vast and varied land and seascapes.

Inspired by both the magnificence of the natural landscape with its immense open spaces and organic shapes as well as the richness of an inherent colour palette, Payton’s works are vibrant and expressive.

In a similar vein to environmental photographer Richard Waldendorp, Payton paints from a bird’s eye view. Her process involves juxtaposing textured layers and soft glazes of a diverse variety of mediums.  These include acrylic and enamel paint, acrylic mediums, turpentine, grass tree resin, bitumen, textured plasters, modeling paste and impasto which she applies to canvas, board and aluminum structures through experimental paint pouring and palette knife techniques.

“Abstract Earth Art’ Exhibition is about connecting people with the environment.” Says Payton, “Through the abstract bird’s eye view style of my art work people often recognize a place they have been throughout Australia.” It is through the recognition of the land that Payton delivers a positive environmental message, one of respect and responsibility towards the earth we live in.

Lisa Payton Creative Arts has been exhibiting at local markets, in particular the Smart Street Parties and has gained a reputation for her original aluminum outdoor wall and table features. She enjoys watching people interpreting her artwork and creating their own environmental story from it.

  • Galleries:Painting,Photography,Sculpture,Art Gallery,Aboriginal,Drawing
  • Open Days/times:Wednesday - Saturday 11am - 4pm (by appointment on other days)

  • Open Days:Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday

Description

Founded as ‘Indigenart’ in 1993 in Perth by Dr Diane Mossenson and her husband Dan, it has since grown to include galleries in both Perth and Melbourne, exhibiting the finest art by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australian artists.

In establishing Indigenart, Diane Mossenson was motivated by the fact that there was no other gallery in Perth dedicated to high-quality Indigenous artworks. Mossenson took this pioneering outlook into the range and styles of artwork that she exhibited. Not content to follow the pack, she strove to exhibit challenging, innovative and exciting artists, rather than already established painters. Mossenson Galleries soon became defined as a trailblazing epicentre for the exciting emerging Indigenous art movement. Glancing over the past 18 years reveals a litany of first solo exhibitions from artists who have gone on to define the indigenous art movement.

With a keen eye for emerging talent, Mossenson has worked tirelessly to promote community art centres – from established centres like Papunya Tula Artists and Maningrida Arts and Culture – through to emerging centres like Minymaku (Tjala), Kalumburu, Iwantja, Waralungku and Milingimbi. It is as a mentor and advisor to artists that Diane Mossenson has found the greatest fulfilment. Mossenson has steered the careers of artists like Shane Pickett, Ngarra, Loongkoonan and Omborrin, in many cases, guiding them from the moment of their very first painting, through to the completion of their final works. She has facilitated projects for her artists, including major commissions, print projects and overseas exhibitions.

In 2006, Mossenson Galleries expanded its interests to include non-Indigenous artists, showing major exhibitions from artists including Col Jordan, Emanuel Raft, Graham Kuo and Peter Pinson. With a keen eye for serious artworks, Mossenson Galleries’ stable of non-Indigenous artists reflects a continuing engagement with inspiring and important artwork.

Mossenson Galleries’ innovation and trend-setting has been acknowledged by public institutions, including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Museum of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, the Art Gallery of South Australia, and the Art Gallery of Western Australia, which regularly source works from them.

Mossenson Galleries is an accredited tourist business and an officially approved provider to the Western Australian Government. Indigenart has been a finalist in the State Tourism Awards for five years, winning a certificate of merit in 2000. Indigenart is a member of the Australian Commercial Galleries Association, the Association of Western Australian Art Galleries and Tourism Council Western Australia. The galleries are committed to the highest standards of ethics, whilst presenting some of the finest contemporary art available in Australia. Each boasts an extensive stockroom, holding works from represented artists and communities, in all media.

Mossenson Galleries provides consultancy services for the selection and placement of works into collections, both private and corporate. Mossenson Galleries Subiaco also incorporates an in-house framing, restoration and conservation service.
