Details

  • Open Days:Saturday,Sunday

Description

This was a Dream of the founder Mr. Hugh Manning, who was an avid collector of Agricultural Machinery and Tractors and who had been collecting since the 1960's. It was in February of 2004 that Hugh passed away.

He and his many friends got together and with sponsorship from Alcoa of Australia and the Serpentine/Jarrahdale Shire, land was made available in Wellard Street.

It was at this time the army of volunteers jumped in - site works, sand carting, landscaping, steam cleaning and restoration got started and so it came to be on September 18th, 1993.

"The Dream became the Reality and will continue growing today and into the future".

In 1994, the Museum won the Australia Day Award for 'Community Event of the Year'.

We are very pleased and proud that our efforts have been recognised.

Description

The Motor Museum of Western Australia is run by the public for the public and is regarded by many curators around Australia as a leading example of Motor Museums.

Displays include period settings, repair workshops, posters and other memorabilia and, of course, the many historic vehicles. With over 130 painstakingly restored cars, bikes, competition, unusual and performance vehicles the Motor Museum of Western Australia is an educational delight for all school children, a must for every rev head and for many of us, a nostalgic reminder of youthful desires. The Museum's shop sells videos, model cars, post cards, books, badges, keyrings and other automobilia. Located in the heart of picturesque Whiteman Park, the Museum has ample parking, (car park No 11) delightful grassed picnic areas and barbecue facilities, is on the park's tramline and only an 18 minute drive from the centre of Perth. Some vehicles have a local historic story attached to them and others are rare examples that you will only find in a few select locations around the world.

So next time you are in Whiteman Park make the time to visit us near the main village, and if you visit Western Australia, then a trip to Whiteman Park is a worthwhile effort. There are many other attractions and activities for the family other than the Motor Museum. So make a day of it and visit Whiteman Park, just be sure to include the Motor Museum in your itinerary of activities at the Park.

Railway Museum Bassendean

The Railway Museum at Bassendean, Perth Western Australia is Western Australia's premier museum devoted to railway history. Description

The majority of the collection is from the Western Australian Government Railways. There are also items representative of the extensive timber lines and gold mines that operated in the state as well as the private lines such as the Midland Railway Company.

The collection spans the whole spectrum of railway history. From Katie which was placed in service in 1881 when the Fremantle to Guildford Railway was built through to more modern diesel locomotives. Therefore whether you are interested is the heavy freight V class steam locomotives or the tiny 20 inch gauge mine locomotive 'Freudie' there is something to interest you at the museum. Four different railway gauges are exhibited. Live steam is a feature of the annual RailFest day - usually in October.

Various passenger carriages and freight wagons that formed an integral part of the railway scene can also be appreciated. A number of these date back to the 19th century. The 1947 "Australind" buffet car is loved by children when hired for their own private birthday party.

The exhibition building houses an extensive collection of railway artefacts and photographs telling the story of railways in Western Australia.

If arriving by train use the Ashfield Railway Station on the Midland line.

Description

See, hear and smell the machinery that played such an important part in the early life of our state.

Dozens of relics from WA’s agricultural past are on display at the Tractor Museum of WA. The collection includes nearly forty tractors, as well as stationary engines, vintage trucks, a display of country life artifacts and old photographs.

Of the tractors on display, the oldest is an operational 1920 Fordson; the rarest, a 1923 Bailor cultivator built in America; and one of the more unique is the HSCS crawler, built in Sweden and the only known one in Australia.

WA even had its own tractor manufacturer, Chamberlain Industries (subsequently taken over by John Deere before later closing down), and their original prototype tractor, the 40K, and the famous “Tail-end Charlie” are both on display.

A parade of restored vintage tractors from the Tractor Museum of WA chugs its way up to Revolutions Transport Museum, before returning through the Village Mall on the second Sunday of every month.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to see these marvelous relics in operation!
