Description

Cape Bouvard Winery & Brewery is the only winery in the Mandurah shire. A destination the family will love, make a day of tasting delicious boutique wines and beers, indulging on a local seafood and discovering host of unique natural attractions at the property including the Thrombolites; the world’s first life form.

The name of the winery comes from WA’s early history. When French sailors discovered Western Australia in 1801, they named the area "Cape of Bouvard" after French astronomer Alexis Bouvard. The name lives on at Cape Bouvard Winery & Brewery.

The Wines & Wine Tasting

White varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Verdelho, Chardonnay and a Classic White, and reds include Merlot, Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines are available for tasting at the cellar door and winery and brewery tours can also be arranged in advance.

The Food

With a motto that good quality food shouldn’t cost the earth, Cape Bouvard serves up modern Australian, café and relaxed restaurant style food featuring local produce wherever possible. Their alfresco overlooks the picturesque vineyards, forest and lawn while the signature indoor log fire is perfect for winter. Open for lunch Tuesday-Sunday.

Unique Highlights

Lake Clifton is home to unique Thrombolites (living rocks), and this is one of only two places in Western Australia that are home to the world's first life form. There is a special look out platform to fully appreciate these fascinating structures. The winery is also bordered by the Yalgorup National Park, home to a plethora of tuart and peppermint woodlands.

Kids are welcome. Pack a frisbee, cricket or bocce set to make the most of the expansive lawns.

 

Drakesbrook Fine Wines

Enjoy alternative varieties such as Savagnin, Fiano and Sangiovese selected to suit the Mediterranean climate of the Peel region at this family owned and operated small-batch winery.

Description

Set in the foothills of the Darling Escarpment, south east of Waroona, Drakesbrook was established in 1998 by Bernard Worthington after four years of searching for his perfect site. The vineyard is elevated at 265 metres above sea levels and features well-drained gravel-loam soils, essential for quality fruit production. The winery takes its name from the Drakesbrook River which flows through it.

The Wines

Drakesbrook Fine Wines make four labels from classic wines through to rare, hand-made small batch wines with unique varieties. Varieties include Semillon, Chardonnay, Vermentino, Savagnin, Fiano, Viognier, Shiraz, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo, Grenache, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cellar Door sales are available from 10am – 5pm on Wednesday to Sunday.  Wine tastings are currently unavailable. Look out for free range eggs and citrus fruits that can be found at the cellar door too.

Description

An integral part of the Peel Region for over 40 years, the first vines at Peel Estate were planted in 1973. Owned and operated by Will Nairn, the winery features 12 acres of vines, and its unique coastal limestone soils and high-water table provide ideal viticulture conditions. Wines at Peel Estate are made onsite in the original architect-designed colonial style brick and timber winery, that visitors can observe from the rustic mezzanine tasting area. The winery Is surrounded by magnificent Tuart trees.

The Wines

Established in 1973 by Will Nairn, Shiraz was the first variety planted followed by Chenin Blanc and Zinfandel in 1976 and Cabernet Sauvignon in 1979. Today, the extensive range also includes Verdelho, Chardonnay, Rose, Sparkling and Fortifieds.

Cellar Door

Open daily from 10am-5pm, enjoy a wine tasting in the charming, rustic cellar door that overlooks the winemaking floor. Bring along a picnic and enjoy your favourite Peel Estate wine in the beautiful picnic grounds under the Tuart trees. During harvest in late-summer, lucky visitors may get to see grapes being crushed and pressed along with red wines fermenting.

Unique Highlights

From October to April, Peel Estate presents their popular Summer Music Series featuring a variety of family-friendly music days.

Peel Ridge Winery

An intimate, family-owned, hand-tended vineyard spread across five-acres producing quality grapes for premium wines. Cellar door tastings available during weekends, or on weekdays by appointment only.

Description

Situated in Karnup close to the towns of Rockingham, Mandurah and Baldavis, enjoy quality wine tasting in perfect tranquillity set amongst the Kangaroos, Kookaburras, Blue Jays and other native wildlife.

Owners Sally and David Case, known for their speciality Nebbiolo and Tempranillo wines, also produce Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Fortified Shiraz. The whiterange includes Chenin Blanc, Verdelho and Sparkling. The team believe that ‘quality wines begin in the vineyard’ and that their use of time intensive traditional methods enables meticulous care and expert craftsmanship to be infused into every bottle.

Art in the Vines events are held regularly in the grounds and cellar door tastings are open weekends and during the week by appointment.

Stakehill Estate Winery

Visit the home of WA’s chilli wine experts; a boutique winery producing traditional, fruit and chilli wines in a variety of 'heat' levels, only 30 minutes from Perth.

Description

The Stakehill Estate is a family run vineyard and winery in Karnup, halfway between Rockingham and Mandurah that was established in 1998.

A range of Chilli Wines in a variety of 'heat' levels are handcrafted, as well as traditional varieties of Vermentino, Verdelho, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot, Grenache, Durif, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot. Rhubarb and passionfruit wines are also made.

Wines can be purchased online or at the Stakehill Estate Winery cellar door, which is open from 10am-5pm daily.

Lake Clifton Winery

Lake Clifton Winery is not your average winery and is famous for its fruit wines.
