Description

Almost 100 acts will entertain you on this magical escape from everyday life. Don’t miss out on WA’s best kept secret that has been a firm favourite for years all just 5 km north of Pinjarra - only an hour’s drive from central Perth. Come for the day or camp for the three-day weekend!

Fairbridge Village makes a wonderful festival site. Graceful, mature bushland and sweeping views over the Darling Escarpment provide a picturesque and peaceful background to the festival. Music spills from numerous marquees and permanent buildings; colourful markets add vibrancy and delight; delicious aromas waft over the catering areas; and everywhere are the sights and sounds of happy people enjoying a fabulous weekend experience.

Presented by the not-for-profit organisation, FolkWorld Inc., the festival is a major event on the WA cultural calendar with a devoted audience base, a strong pool of volunteers, a strong organising committee, and a dedicated and committed Board. Its reputation has spread to the point where each year it receives well over 500 applications from acts, Australia-wide, wanting to play; and many internationals strive to make it a part of their touring schedule. It has stayed true to the original vision of catering to a family audience, and presents probably the largest children and youth programs, in proportion to the festival as a whole, of any such event in the country.

DENISE PEPPER

Embossing a memory.
The postcards often used to show a visited place or occasion and usually sent with a message of love and friendship. Denise’s workshop will help students to create a personal postcard in soft metal shims. She will be demonstrating techniques to hand work copper and aluminum through surface treatments, stippling and embossing. Please bring your inspiration for your design such as a letter, postcard, a poem or just your imagination whilst surrounded by the beautiful environment of a day in Dwellingup.

MIKAELA CASTLEDINE

Recover.
Found objects repurposed into art in Mikaela’s work often expands to encompass twigs and small branches. Choosing them is an act of mindful looking. Wrapping them in iridescent Perle cotton becomes an act of reverence, restitution and recovery.

JUDY ROGERS

Romancing Botany.
An accessible introduction to botanical painting: This workshop will help students understand basic concepts and applications in visual art relating to the exciting close-up study of Western Australian plants. Through detailed observational tonal sketches, participants will capture the essence of plants with Sumi-e painting.
