Description

This November (provided the risk levels and restrictions allow for it), we will bring you a traditional marché de Noël just like you'd find in French towns - minus the snow, of course.

A French Christmas Market is traditional from the East Regions of France, the Alsace and Lorraine located close to Germany.

It normally takes place in little wooden houses on the streets from end of November till Christmas. You can enjoy food, hot mulled wine and hot chocolate while roving between artisan and Christmas decoration stalls to find the perfect gift idea. It is more about the atmosphere, the community sharing and gathering than just a simple market.

We will recreate the ambiance so the local community will experience the settings of a French Christmas Market and have the perfect opportunity to travel without having to leave Perth.

This year Russell Square will get transformed in a magical Market Street with cardboard facades recreating the traditional wooden houses and visitors will wander through the French inspired stalls to find some gorgeous gifts such as homewares, jewellery, clothes, cards, art and much more!

In a dedicated licenced area, patrons will be able to taste some of the French Classical festive Christmas food such as bûche de Noel, Foie Gras and Vin Chaud. We will also offer some live entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

A special kids zone in partnership with 123 Soleil French School will be created. Children and their families will have an opportunity to meet Santa, to send a letter at Santa's post office, create Christmas arts and craft and decorate some wooden Christmas trees. They will also love listening to the Christmas songs by the children Choir of the French School of Perth roving around the market.

We will push to French Spirit even further by having our own special Unique Christmas Eiffel Tower decorated as a Christmas Tree. In France the advent calendar is a vivid tradition where not only kids but also adults enjoy during the whole month of December discovering each day a special treat. We are planning as a fundraiser for our registered cultural charity to create a giant advent calendar where 24 lucky participants will win one of the prizes hidden behind the doors!

Description

Curated by guest curator Anna Louise Richardson.

PICA is pleased to present the significant group show Refracted Reality, curated by Perth based curator and artist Anna Louise Richardson, as our annual PICA Salon exhibition. This year the PICA Salon offers a curated selection of responses to the window as a motif or metaphor, a physical barrier that speaks to broader concerns of duality and exchange. In this exhibition the artists’ works are the medium through which ideas pass and bend, echoing questions of privacy, representational fictions in a post-truth era and a renewed interest in both the intimacy and constrictions of interior space in the wake of mass self-isolation.

The artists make visible the chaos of the urban domestic, digital landscapes and social upheaval, but also balance this with scenes of imaginary gardens, introspective interiors and the sublime landscape. Refractive Reality seeks to create a space of shelter, inviting the viewer into intimate environments and private rituals that create a mirage of perspectives which explore alternative realities.

Description

Olga Cironis is a multidisciplinary artist who explores the murky undertones and impact that history and memory have on personal and shared identity. She examines the notions of belonging in today’s cultural globalisation — in particular, appropriated histories and accepted attitudes on belonging in the Australian cultural and social landscape.

Gathered by the artist as audio recordings and presented as a sound installation, Forest of Voices gives form to a collective archive of voices.

“Forest of Voices is about listening to the ‘other’ as fragments of private intimate conversations that play all at the same time through small, suspended speakers. There will be whisperings of desires, love, pain, loss and fear. Together with recordings of the four elements, they create a delicate chorus of voices, a sound that from a distance is similar to the wind through branches.”
