Description

'Hello, I'm Doing My Best' is a revealing collection of songs that track her most formative relationships: to her body, her instincts, sobriety, and the old vices it counteracts, and the people she loves most.

The album carries a sentiment most can relate to, and therein lies the undeniable pull of Ali Barter's output. From her breakout single 'Girlie Bits' to recent cut 'Ur A Piece Of Sh*t' Barter spins sobering honesty through sugary pop songs, like a one-two punch of staunch self assurance and touching vulerability, in a way that is so uniquely her own. On her method, Barter explains "I really connect to the idea that you can say something really controversial, but if you say it in a nice way people are more likely to listen to it."

Since winning the triple j Unearthed competition and releasing her debut album 'A Suitable Girl' in 2017, the former choir girl has enjoyed support at home from triple j, FBi Radio, The Australia, Rolling Stone, and Tone Deaf, while further afield, Beats 1, Clash, and The 405 have all thrown support behind the unvonventional pop star.

Barter has toured relentlessly, completing two sold out headline tours, countless festival slots and supported The Rubens, The War On Drugs, The Jezabels, Stevie Nicks, The Peatures, Chrissie Hynde and personal hero, Liz Phair.

They called their themselves the "New Primitives" giving their work doses of irony and satire in their music. Goran Bregovic, one of the most popular musicians from the region, calls them the only original response to Punk in this part of Europe.

in 1984,”Jugoton Records" released the first album "Das ist Walter". The album sublimated the energies and desires of a whole generation of young people in ex-Yugoslavia. The album, with an initial circulation of 3,000 units, went on to sell in excess of 100,000 units in record time which has still not been broken.

Zabranjeno pušenje moved on to a major YU tour (60 concerts) in the largest halls across Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Macedonia to become one of the largest Yugoslav rock attractions.

In addition to music, members of the band also we a part of a humorous show on TV in collaboration with young Sarajevo actors which went on to become one of the most popular programs across ex-Yugoslavia.

Their 1987 tour was their biggest tour to date. The band performed in cities that until then had never had the opportunity to see a live Zabranjeno pušenje concert which in that time launched the group into popularity as one of the largest YU rock institutions, alongside Azra, Bijelo Dugme, Parni Valjak and Riblja Corba.

On October 31, 2018, the band released their eleventh studio album “Šok i nevjerica”. The songs were written and produced by founding member Sejo Sexon and now after 11 long years they’re coming back to Australia for 3 very special performances that should not be missed!

Treating punters to a live set stacked with tunes from their hefty back catalogue, the tour will kick off with a matinee show on Cup Day, Tuesday November 5 at the Corner, before zigzagging across Australia, playing shows in Castlemaine, NSW, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.

It was May 1989 when The Meanies first moved their music out of their rehearsal space and onto the stage, and fast became notorious as the most unruly and savage punk act the country had seen. Countless live shows saw the band cultivate a formidable local following and play with a veritable stack of international heavyweights, like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Bad Brains and Beastie Boys, to name a few.

Five years later and 10% Weird belted through the punk-rock stratosphere and into the laps of punk fans across the country. Released via Au Go Go, Munster Records (ES), Subway Records (DE) and Frontier Records (USA), the LP has long been regarded as the band’s magnum opus, an album symbolic of Melbourne’s chaotic beer-drenched punk-rock scene of the time and a record cited by countless bands as a major influence.

Fast-forward to 2019, and the band have flown into the country from all over the world to celebrate 30 years of recklessness, broken bones, excessive boozing and busted eardrums.

Cate Le Bon

  • Music:Concert Tours,Gig Guide

Description

It was on a mountainside in Cumbria that the first whispers of Cate Le Bon's fifth studio album poked their buds above the Earth. "There's a strange romanticism to going a little bit crazy and playing the piano to yourself and singing into the night," she says, recounting the year living solitarily in the Lake District, which gave way to Reward.

By day, ever the polymath, Le Bon painstakingly learnt to make solid wood tables, stools and chairs from scratch; by night, she looked to a second-hand Meers - the first piano she ever owned - for company, "windows closed to absolutely everyone", and accidentally poured her heart out.

The result is an album every bit as stylistically varied, surrealistically-inclined and tactile as those in the enduring outsider's back catalogue, but one that is also intensely introspective and profound; her most personal to date.

The Beasts - 'Still Here' Tour

Description

Unlike fellow mythological beasts the Gorgon, Hydra and Minotaur, these swashbuckling heroes of the Australian rock n’ roll pantheon hit the road for a sold out national tour earlier this year, proving that you stab them with your steely knives but you just can’t kill The Beasts. But now they're back at it again with a national run of shows that will undoubtedly cement their collective booze soaked reputations as the indestructible, if not immortal demi-gods of Australian rock n’ roll.

Age shall not weary The Beasts, although the years may condemn. After the emotional and frankly devastating loss of their fellow footsoldiers and Australian musical icons Brian Hooper and Spencer P Jones in 2018, Tex Perkins and compadres Kim Salmon, Tony Pola, Boris Sujdovic and Charlie Owen resolved to continue carrying the torch of the unstoppable life force that is the Beasts of Bourbon. Gathering all remaining members past and present to record a set of jams and covers that became the new album Still Here, and here was proof that there was life in the old dogs yet.

It couldn’t be The Beasts of Bourbon though, with Spencer sadly only making it on to one track before his passing, so with respect to their fallen comrades, a new but comfortingly familiar entity, The Beasts, rose from the ashes. Adding a new layer of primordial discordant ooze to the outrageous mythology surrounding them (as much of their own making as that of their ardent fans); The Beasts’ Still Here, featuring gems such as Tex’s ‘On My Back’ and ‘Just Let Go’ and Spencer’s prophetic ‘At The Hospital’ along with the likes of Kim’s ‘Pearls Before Swine’ and Boris’ ‘Don’t Pull Me Over’ – not to mention a couple of unexpected but highly appropriate covers from Zappa and Warren Zevon – saw them roaring back to life.

Description

On Feb 2nd 1979, STIFF LITTLE FINGERS unleashed their groundbreaking debut album upon a confused musical world barely ready for the incendiary onslaught of passion and politics that positioned SLF right at the forefront of the punk movement.

Formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, SLF wrote about their own lives growing up at the height of The Troubles. Preceded by the single “Suspect Device” which John Peel played every night, “Inflammable Material” burst into the UK Top 20 – the first ever debut album to do so on an independent label.

A SLF live show continues to be a special event of energy and power and the band are more in demand than ever. Bad Religion and Rancid have both credited SLF as a major influence. As well as Inflammable Material classics “Suspect Device”, “Johnny Was”, “Alternative Ulster”, “Wasted Life”, “Barbed Wire Love” and “State Of Emergency”, fans can anticipate anthemic favourites such as “Gotta Gettaway”, “Tin Soldiers”, “At The Edge” and “Nobodys Hero”.
