Wildlife Centres in Mundaring Area

The Mundaring area in Western Australia is well-known for its rich biodiversity and offers numerous opportunities to observe native wildlife in their natural habitats. Some notable attractions and activities in the area include Mundaring Weir, located a 40-minute drive from Perth. This site is an important part of Western Australia's heritage and provides a scenic location for picnics, bushwalking, and wildlife observation. Visitors can walk across the massive concrete weir wall, enjoy barbecue facilities, grassed areas, and shaded trees.

There are several walking trails around Mundaring Weir that lead visitors deep into virgin bush, offering views of beautiful native plants, animals, and a variety of bird species. The Perth Hills Discovery Centre, which currently is unavailable due to unauthorized access, serves as a meeting place, walk trail hub, campground, and education facility where visitors can immerse themselves in the jarrah and marri forest close to Perth. The Mundaring area is home to diverse native wildlife, including quenda (bandicoots), kangaroos, echidnas, possums, reptiles such as bobtail lizards, and various types of frogs. Visitors are encouraged to keep an eye out for these species while exploring the region's parks and backyards. Before entering bushland during or after a fire to recover injured wildlife, it is advisable to check with the Shire of Mundaring or the Department of Parks and Wildlife (Perth Hills District).
