Description

Propelled from the obsession with electronica but still a far distance from the machinations of the mainstream music of the time, the signature sound of The Sisters Of Mercy cultivated a powerful mystique, creating some of the most influential rock music of the 1980s.

Led by the haunting voice and visual focus of founding band member Andrew Eldritch, The Sisters Of Mercy’s ingenious and self-proclaimed ‘supercharged industrial psychedelia’ spawned a subculture of underground rock music that gained cult status and has since been cited as a major influence by the likes of Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and My Chemical Romance.

“aggressive, decadent, magnetic, metallic, and..downright operatic.”- AV Club

Over the course of three decades The Sisters Of Mercy released three utterly brilliant and hyper influential studio albums scaling the charts around the globe and have amassed a legion of devoted fans who flock to see classics such as ‘Lucretia My Reflection’, ‘Temple Of Love’ and ‘This Corrosion’, a testament to their incredible live shows.

In 2019 The Sisters fun juggernaut drives on with a little new chrome and a lot of vintage attitude.

Kambarang is the wildflower season with many yellow flowers, orchids, kangaroo paws and banksias in bloom. Even the Balgas will flowers, especially if they have been burnt in the past year. One of the most striking displays of flowers at this time of year is the Mooja or Australian Christmas Tree, whose bright orange/yellow flowers signal that heat is on its way.

As many things are undergoing transformation with the warm change in the weather and longer dry periods, October is a time of the year you are most likely to encounter a snake. Reptiles at this time are emerging from hibernation and look to make the most of the warm weather to assist them in getting enough energy to look for food.

Please meet outside of the Banks Reserve Pavilion and bring your hat, water and sunscreen.

Bush catering will be provided by Marissa.

To ensure fairness and safety to our facilitator and community members, numbers are strictly limited and you must reserve a place through Eventbrite to attend. We appreciate your understanding.

Thanks you to Jason Barrow for sharing his knoweldge of the Noongar Six Seasons with the City of Vincent and our community. Noongar Six Season artwork by Darryl Bellotti.

It lead to critical acclaim, a Top 4 ARIA Chart debut, huge tours, headlining festival slots and playing the biggest venues of their career.

They also found themselves at a crossroads: keep flogging away on the road, touring relentlessly and continue to solidify their position as one of the world's most joyously raucous live bands...or, after 10 years as a band, aim for something bigger, something grander.

Positive Rising: Part 1 is something grander.

Description

Emerging from one of the eddies in the independent undercurrent of Brisbane’s 90s music scene, the past 2.5 decades have been of ceaseless reinventive spirit, playing with form and flux, the affection of self-parody, ever ambling a rickety bridge of modus vivendi, all bagged up with an effervescent outsider enthusiasm that has never left their skin. And now... to pound the quarter century mark with a fully blown visually rehabilitated retrospective of a show straddling a holographic hyperbole of antiquated technology, trawling the analogue back through the digital.

And when it comes to those ubiquitous lists...
Maybe 11 ALBUMS or so if you count the live, Jingles compilation and latest kids release;
EPS surely must be 7 of these at least... and in their time maybe 16 singles, a few 7inches and 5 or so DVD releases. And MUSIC VIDEOS feels like maybe 47 or so of those...
SHIRTS jeez, must have been close to 120 or so designs spread across... approximately 905 PERFORMANCES or thereabouts including maybe 25 national headline tours, 6 Big Day Out tours, so many festivals you could poke a stick at... along with some great times playing with DEVO, Boredoms, The Prodigy, TISM, Audio Active, CIV, The Mint Chicks, Ratatat, Senyawa, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Helmet, The Melvins and more including the odd collaborative excursions into theatre, dance, live soundtracks and generally just bent on allowing an unstable ingenuity... and on that note who could forget 21 days inside a glass BUBBLE!

Whatever the extent of this output means in the greater scheme of things the obvious consistencies have always been the open pursuit of creative probity, humour above serious intent, sustainable mentalities above any need for dominance, and about as honest unto themselves as possible - whomever that might be? All in all just playing to the ad-hoc... making it up as it goes.

Joining us for this head-brush of a warp drive through our times is none other than Japan's coruscating icons of sugar punk power popsters SHONEN KNIFE, along with erstwhile compadres in the mirthful upending of contemporary culture THE FAUVES.

The platinum-certified independent singer, songwriter, producer, and pop visionary exploded onto the charts with global smash ‘I Like Me Better’, now four times platinum in Australia alone, and accruing more than 660 million streams worldwide.

With latest single ‘i’m so tired…’ with Troye Sivan, Lauv continues his upward trajectory to pop stardom. In a matter of weeks, the single has accumulated over 175 million streams and is currently #27 at Top 40 Radio in the US and rising. The pair recently performed the single on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

US up-and-comer Carlie Hanson will join Lauv on his Australian dates. Her breakout lush pop single ‘Only One’ has accrued over 54 million streams on Spotify alone, the rising pop-star touring with the likes of Yungblud and Troye Sivan.

Selling out rooms around the country on his 2018 visit, Lauv delivers dynamic performances that showcase his tender, evocative brand of pop. He’s a modern trailblazer for singer-songwriter-producers, quickly becoming the go-to for electro-pop gems. Lauv will break your heart and heal it again – all in one live show. Don’t miss out.
