Burnside Organic Wines

A family-owned and operated certified organic and biodynamic farm and vineyard making Vermention and Zinfandel in various forms and growing amazing produce that can be found at the local markets.

Description

Established in 2011 by Jamie and Lara McCall, this small family winery is organic and biodynamic with Australian Certified Organic and has been for over 15 years. The farm's dry-grown, north-facing vineyards are managed by hand and the fruit is hand-picked by the McCalls each vintage, reflecting the estate's family values and close attention to detail. 

The Wines

A Zinfandel and Zinfandel Rose are made, taking inspiration from David Hohnen’s original plantings at Cape Mentelle in the 1970s. Vermentino is made in still and sparkling styles.  Wines can be purchased from stockists throughout Western Australia or at the farm by appointment only. 

Unique Highlights

Burnside Organic Wines is also home to four rammed-earth bungalows featuring solid limestone walls, charming firepits and sweeping views of the Burnside Organic Farm. The Farm also grows meat and poultry, eggs, fruit and vegetables, honey and wine. The produce can often be found at the Margaret River Farmer’s Markets on Saturday mornings.

 

Carpe Diem Vineyard

Taste handmade, hand-bottled Italian varietal wines at the winery-based tasting table with the Anderle family, who relocated from the Mediterranean in 2001 to pursue their dreams in Margaret River.

Description

Carpe Diem is the heart-warming winery of Gianfranco and Francesco Anderle, a delightful winemaking family who visited Margaret River in 2000, fell in love with the region and sold up their assets to chase their dreams with a 75 hectare property in Wilyabrup. Hence the name, Carpe Diem!

The Wines
Winemaker Gianfranco trained at the world’s oldest wine school in Europe, Conegliano in Northern Italy. He brings a strong European approach to his winemaking, every aspect of which he does in his custom-built winery, including hand-bottling his wines. Italian varieties are the focus such as pinot grigio, schiaffo, vermentino, nebiolo and decantato. 

Wine Tasting
Known for the beautiful Italian hospitality, Gianfranco and Francesca love meeting their guests and personally providing complimentary tastings of all the wines from their winery-based tasting table. Look out for a few small-batch special release wines are available exclusively at the cellar door from time to time.

Carpe Diem also makes a European style Olive Oil which sells out very quickly!

Hay Shed Hill is one of the oldest vineyards in the region. Centrally located in Wilyabrup, the heart of the Margaret River Wine Region.

Hay Shed Hill is one of the oldest vineyards in the Margaret River region. Our cellar door has an extensive range on offer with over 25 wines on tasting. Description

Established in 2015 in in Margaret River, LS Merchants is owned by Dylan Arvidson and his wife, Taryn.


Working with wine regions throughout WA, LS Merchants’ wines are made with minimal intervention, wild fermentation where possible and a lot of experimentation; the former to express the varietal characters, the latter to push the boundaries of conventional winemaking and produce interesting and enticing styles.


Varieties include: Vermentino, Verdot Pinot, Syrah and a Red Blend.


Production is very small, usually consisting of one or two barrels so please get in contact to see what LS Merchants are currently offering and where you can find it!

Description

Me, Nick (Maker) & Sarah (Master) make small batch, single vineyard, low-intervention wines of texture and character from Margaret River with left of centre varieties. We made a grand total of 600 dozen bottles in 2017 from 9.5 tonnes of Vermentino, Chenin & Cabernet Franc. We want to make our wines with a light touch, avoiding fining, filtering only if vital and being sensitive to the needs of the wines rather than imposing pre-existing recipes.
