This fuels my use of up cycled materials as an avenue to create nature inspired sculptures that not only send a message but are aesthetically pleasing. I work in a diverse range of media, namely bronze, cement, timbre, steel and fibreglass. My artwork varies from small gallery size pieces to larger outdoor/indoor works. When creating sculptures, I place emphasis on form, structure, expression of movement and of course the meaning of each piece.

Description

Anita uses colour, texture, pattern and movement, to bring her work to life. She also creates larger-than-life-size dreamcatchers, and was a finalist in the Castaways Sculpture Awards (Rockingham) last year.

There are a lot of things that make her heart sing, but beauty is the common thread. She creates beauty in order to be surrounded by beauty.

Anita prefers to work in acrylics, beginning each project with a beautiful word or affirmation in mind, and letting that vibration infuse itself into each piece.

Through the lens of my camera, I capture the beauty of the South West region’s natural heritage & lifestyle in all its diverse forms. My partner Al Purdon, perfectly complements my images by framing them in WA’s celebrated timbers – Jarrah, Marri, Sheoak & Karri. Our aim is to recycle, using the assorted ‘waste’ of the timber industry – bark edge face cuts, discards and mill ends; in fact anything we can find to add that final appealing touch to make art.

Beach-combing on a remote Far Northern section of The Great Barrier Reef, gave me opportunity to take a special photo that has now made its way into my artwork.

It was the catalyst to commence a marine inspired theme called “overboard”. A small cottage in Margaret River has been in the process of renovation during the past 12 months and an art studio has emerged. I now have a home for my artworks and space to paint in a pretty little piece of Margaret River.

Chloe Wilder

Chloe Wilder is yet another Margaret River blow in from a small and extraordinarily exotic country off the East coast of Australia.

  • Open Days/times:BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
  • Galleries:Drawing,Painting,Mixed Media,Print Making,Artist Studio

Details

  • Open Days:By Appointment Only

Description

Her current body of work is focusing on the modern female portrait. In her large scale oil paintings, Chloe attempts to connect with women who display an air of strength and hunts down faces on social media.

It seems a tad odd of her to paint people she doesn’t know and to expect you to be impressed by her renditions of those who mean squat to you, but that is the whole point. What inspires a painter? Can you communicate a feeling? Is it the same feeling for everyone? What is the connection between the artist and the muse? How is that connection forged between people sometimes on opposite sides of the world? What even is a portrait in the era of selfie culture?

Description

Bird watching from a young age in central Victoria; having a natural inclination to paint in watercolours; mixed with working as a design draftsman for many years, led to Chris becoming a fine watercolour artist of birds and landscapes. was trained to use a Crow-Quill pen nib that was just so fine: and it may be that training that stayed with me when even using a fine kolinsky brush decades later.

Each painting is designed to achieve: an attractive picture; technically reliable portrayal of the birds and flora; high quality workmanship; and most importantly to increase appreciation and ultimately the conservation of Western Australian birds.

Along with producing fine art originals, we produce a complimenting range of Limited Edition and Open Prints and greeting cards.

Having undertaken the Master Gardener course at Burnley in Melbourne and Botanical Illustration courses at the Royal Botanic Gardens, her special interest lies in capturing, in complete detail, the characteristics of the plants that she is painting. In addition, she likes to draw the plants at different stages of seasonal development as they go from bud to flower to seed.

Christopher Young

  • Open Days/times:BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
  • Represented Artists:Christopher Young
  • Galleries:Installation,Photography

Details

  • Open Days:By Appointment Only

Description

Christopher Young was born in small-town New Zealand in the mid-seventies. After finishing his studies, he moved to Germany in 1996 before settling in Western Australia in 2002.

Isolation is a recurring theme in his life and work – the remoteness of growing up in semi-rural New Zealand, the loneliness of living in Germany as a poor German speaker and lately the geographic and ideological seclusion of life in Australia, have all coloured his artistic practice.

Context, coding in images and a lack of a personal cultural library have been central themes explored in his work.

Description

Most of my work is created from fine porcelain, which is formed into simple shapes using a pottery wheel. I then carve, etch, paint and draw into the surface of the clay to create detailed designs and patterns.

I love the unlimited possibilities and challenges of working with clay.

David Galloway

In the past Open Studios exhibitions, my work focused on creating narrative rich, household furniture and objects made from up-cycled materials. In 2018, I am stepping from looking at the things that surround people and make their lives rich and livable, to looking at how to enrich people’s identity in the context of their community and culture. This shift is accompanied by a considerable increase in the size of the works.

Description

Working with the concept of “different minds”, I’m developing interactive sculptural installations and collaborations across the 4ha of the Ferart Studio property.

My art practice seeks to create narrative rich pieces that investigate the integration of scientific, rational and economic activity; with the ecological, communal, intuitive and sensual aspects of human culture. It places a strong emphasis on inviting people to live more rich and interesting lives.

During Open Studios there will be collaborative activities and events for all ages, see the Ferart Studio website and Facebook page for details.

Description

The branches of her art practice are many and varied and Deanne has recently been producing historical mixed media portraits based on narratives and memories. Along with painting, collage and drawing, Deanne is also using textile techniques such as silk screen printing and shibori, echo, resist and indigo dyeing with new and upcycled clothing and fabrics to explore these themes.

Deanne lectures in Visual Arts at South Regional TAFE Margaret River.

Debbie Chambers

In Open Studios 2018, I’ve used the creative process to explore the concept of “different minds”. The result is an “art scape” of up cycled works across the studio and property, that provide stories and a narrative exploring the experience of living and coping in a complex world of difference. “Same, same but different” using Mindfulness to view this space well describes what I am grappling with in these works.

Description

My art finds a place as “Quirky”, capturing elements of function and form, imbuing soul, storytelling, sharing new skills and old ways. It is about creative designs using repurposed materials – collecting, finding treasures, exchanging, sharing, using existing resources, making new things from old, and reducing consumption. Most of my work uses the flotsam and jetsam I find around me, for expression and imagery that illustrates what I see and want to express to others.

At Open Studios you will experience colour, light, assemblage, textiles and installations. Throughout the process, I delve into how we can reduce waste, create social networks, build opportunities, and enrich communities to encourage hope, optimism and creativity. Some works are collaborative, some provocative and many I hope are inspiring. Come and spend some time exploring the space. Enjoy the creative design ideas and projects you find, bring a picnic if you like and sit and soak up the works in the bush setting. Join the interactive activities, workshops and events we are planning for all ages over the two weeks of Open Studios…see Ferart Studio website and Facebook page for details.

I have developed my own technique of mixed media painting on recycled roofing iron. I use the same technique to indulge my fertile imagination in a series of whimsical figurative works. My passion for art has taken me through a vast range of endeavours including managing and curating Art Galleries and Exhibitions, oil portraits, relief sculpture, cartooning and caricatures, murals and gardening.
