Description

This fuels my use of up cycled materials as an avenue to create nature inspired sculptures that not only send a message but are aesthetically pleasing. I work in a diverse range of media, namely bronze, cement, timbre, steel and fibreglass. My artwork varies from small gallery size pieces to larger outdoor/indoor works. When creating sculptures, I place emphasis on form, structure, expression of movement and of course the meaning of each piece.

Bethany Treanor

An emerging artist and full time visual arts student, I strive to to be sustainable by using recycled, reusable and up cycled materials, and when needed, I source new materials locally.

Description

I use a range of media, oil sticks, pastels, acrylic and oil paints and paper mache sculpture. My first love is oil sticks and pastels. I use these in my emotional landscapes. These drawings use blending, rhythm and harmonious balance to show you what I feel when I capture a moment in the scenery around me. They evoke rather than provoke, allowing you to to be embraced by the emotion of the moment.

David Galloway

In the past Open Studios exhibitions, my work focused on creating narrative rich, household furniture and objects made from up-cycled materials. In 2018, I am stepping from looking at the things that surround people and make their lives rich and livable, to looking at how to enrich people’s identity in the context of their community and culture. This shift is accompanied by a considerable increase in the size of the works.

Description

Working with the concept of “different minds”, I’m developing interactive sculptural installations and collaborations across the 4ha of the Ferart Studio property.

My art practice seeks to create narrative rich pieces that investigate the integration of scientific, rational and economic activity; with the ecological, communal, intuitive and sensual aspects of human culture. It places a strong emphasis on inviting people to live more rich and interesting lives.

During Open Studios there will be collaborative activities and events for all ages, see the Ferart Studio website and Facebook page for details.

Description

Some new materials have come to me this year, but I’m still mining recycled materials from 20 years of collection, starting with the building of our studio home. The largest sculpture.

I love the freedom of working with a wide variety of recycled materials. Each work of mine, and many of the materials, has a back story. It has been part of something before.

Exploring and constructing perceived Australian icons has been an element of my on-going practice for some time now. It is these Icons with their wry reflections of us that I enjoy representing back to viewers.

The pieces generally stand between 70cm to 150cm high, and are all hand built from clay with a cold glaze finish. You are welcome to come and visit my studio, the clay house, next to the Margaret River Bakery.

Jonathon Thwaites

Description

Depicting the human form is one of the most challenging, rewarding things for an artist to attempt, and one of the most difficult. In working from life, I don't want to idealise or objectify, but to capture the changing shapes and shadows of the body as every model brings her own energy and charm to the work. My littoral paintings try to show the forces which sculpt the dunes and shore, to accurately depict the living ecology of the beach. Locations range the entire WA coast, each place with its unique colours and geology. I use diverse media; painting, sketching, as well as sculpting wood and metal. I enjoy giving workshops and lessons to small groups by request and undertake commissions including portraits.

She wants to share her love of this beautiful area by creating paintings that celebrate the culture and landscape: be it grapevines, hearing the sound of a waterfall, seeing the tall stand of trees creating rhythm and repetition in a forest setting, seeing the waves rolling in, tasting that first sip of opulent, silky red or seeing whales playing in the ocean. Skye says that “the hours disappear when I have a brush or pen in my hand and I am doing what I love.”
