Celebrity Tree Park

A park overlooking the Ord River, famous for its celebrity visits and trees planting.

Description

Opening in 1984, the park has been graced by the likes of John Farnham, HRH Princess Anne and Harry Butler.

Diversion Dam

A tourist attraction of the Kimberley, this dam regulates the water from the famous Ord River.

Description

An iconic Kununurra landmark, the dam consists of 20 radial gates and is a fascinating display of infrastructure in the East Kimberley.

Hidden Valley National Park

"Three kilometres from Kununurra, visit the sandstone cliffs inside the Park that are more than 300 million years old - often called the "mini Bungles"."

Description

Ivanhoe Crossing

A popular attraction allowing tourists to cross the Ord River via a concrete causeway.

Description

A major landmark across the spectacular Ord River, the crossing is an idyllic spot to casted a line out to snag some barrmundi, or simply soak up the expanse of river as the sun sets. Depending on road openings and local restrictions, it may be possible to drive over the crossing.

Kelly's Knob

Kelly's Knob is a great place to watch a glorious sunset and finish a day off looking around the town.

Description

It is just over a km out of town and there is a sealed road to the top with a short walk to look over the town of Kununurra, the Ord irrigation area, Lake Kununurra and the Sleeping Buddha!

The walk right to the top is 1.2km round trip and can be quite steep in places and challenging for some people, make sure you take some water with you, or even a coupe of cold beers to enjoy the sunset with!

Lake Argyle

72km from Kununurra. An inland sea that covers 812 square kilometres. Ideal for nature lovers who want to see this unique ecosystem.

Description

Lake Argyle is your first stop in Western Australia when travelling from the Northern Territory and the last of the Kimberley’s amazing attractions when leaving Western Australia.

The closest town is Kununurra – one of the youngest towns in Australia and a service centre for the East Kimberley’s growing tourism, agriculture and mining industries!

Molly Springs

A popular tourist attraction, Molly Springs is a small natural pool only 30km from Kununurra.

Description

A year round attraction, this little pool is an idyllic spot to marvel at the goannas and birds. The perfect place to cool down and feel replenished on your Kimberley adventure!

Parry Creek Road

A picturesque route from Wyndham to Kununurra alongside the Ord River.

Description

A stunning stretch of road, the route journeys passed the must-see Marlgu Billabong and accommodation at Parry Creek Farm, set in the Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve.

Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is the local government responsible for the towns of Kununurra and Wyndham.

Description

It's one of four Local Government Areas in the Kimberley Region of northern Western Australia, covering an area of 117,514 square kilometres. We have one of the oldest (Wyndham) and one of the newest (Kununurra) towns in Western Australia. Add to that the largest producing diamond mine in the world, some of the most culturally rich landscapes on earth along with farmers who can sow and harvest a crop without a single drop of rain falling.

The East Kimberley hosted the 'Faraway Downs' location shoot for the Baz Luhrmann film Australia - proudly claiming to be the real home of Australia! Kununurra is the north-eastern gateway to the Kimberley, which encompasses about 420,000 kms of timeless landscapes and diverse land uses.

The Kimberley Region of Western Australia is made up of four Shires: Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley Shire of Broome Shire of Derby West Kimberley Shire of Halls Creek

The major population centres are the towns of Broome, Derby, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek, Kununurra and Wyndham. There are also approximately 215 Aboriginal communities, of various population sizes, located throughout the Kimberley. 

Swim Beach

A freshwater 'beach' along the famous Ord River.
