Description

With his warming, coastal acoustic sounds and gently pulsing minimalistic beats that push and pull with the tides of the ocean, James Abberley from the Western-shores of Australia is releasing an introspective single, 'You're The One' (Out October 30).

Over the past number of years, Abberley has hit impressive milestones throughout his career which include supporting the likes of Xavier RuddThe WaifsPaul DempsyAsh Grunwald and Kim Churchill. Abberley's also performed at a number of WA festivals including Nannup Festival and Into The Sun Festival to name a few.

In January this year, Abberley made his way to New Zealand for the first time where four of the six shows sold out. This trend has continued with the return of live music in WA with Abberley selling out his last 5 shows.

Now in quick succession to follow up his most recent single 'Drifting' (released in August) is 'You're The One'. With a "from the heart" passion and seriousness, this weighty number is indicative of the heart-pounding emotions tied to a yearning for the one as the title suggests. Abberley states:

"'You're The One' is about that moment when you are trying to fall asleep, but no matter what you do, you just can't get that person that you love or want out of your head. It's amazing to me that you can feel like a slave to your own thoughts."

Generating this feeling is Abberley's easy listening blend of acoustic-folk, minimalistic beats and his tender vocal tone that is laced with a soft Australiana accent.

Abberley's music imbues a sense of tranquillity and meditative space for introspection.

For those in WA wanting to catch Abberley live-looping performance, find more information about the single tour which is expected to sell out below.

POND ANNOUNCE ONE-OFF FREMANTLE SHOW WITH SPECIAL GUESTS TBC

“Allbrook, much like Bradford Cox or even Bowie, has a knack for conveying the beauty and madness of the human condition in his lyrics and performance…

- UNCUT

"..thrilling and unpredictable.."

- THE AGE

"..Pond are at the top of their game.”

- THE BIG ISSUE

Set to headline Bad Friday Weekender and Boogie Fest and following on from rapturously received performances with Mac De Marco, today POND announces a one-off headline show in Fremantle.  Joined by special guests Children Collide, the five-piece will take the stage at Freo.Social on Saturday 4 April for their last hometown show for awhile, as they ready to return to the studio to record album #9.

2019 was a milestone year for the prolific and one-of-a-kind collective. POND’s eighth studio album Tasmania debuted at #15 on the ARIA album chart and #2 on the AIR independent chart in March.  Their most critically acclaimed album to date, Tasmania features the  alt-pop anthem Daisy, psychedelic space romp Sixteen Days, the grandiose The Boys Are Killing Me and spatial adventure Burnt Out Star.

The release was followed by a live studio album Sessions in November.  Recorded during their European tour, Sessions featured the exhilarating album cut Don’t Look at the Sun (Or You'll Go Blind).  The live fan-favourite contains a reference to Six Pack by ESG and Firestarter by The Prodigy.

Continuing to expand their performance resumé, in the past year POND has performed sold-out headline shows across the nation and extensive tours of North America, Europe and the UK.   They’ve also performed a slew of festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Glastonbury, Primavera, We Love Green and many more.

Description

Knievel Daredevil was written at the start of 2020. Lyrically the song is an introspective letter to my former self that I wish I could’ve read in year 9. Looking back at my adolescent years with the hindsight of being where I am now I can see the constraints and pressure I put myself under to be something I wasn’t.

This song is a reminder to step back from my life and ask myself what I really want, a reminder to do things on my own terms and a reminder to be who I want to be. I’m not a Knievel Daredevil at all and I think there’s a lot of pressure on young men to be a version of themselves that disregards introspection and sensitivity, restricting them from knowing what they really want in life.

Even Daredevil’s have feelings!!

2020 has been a wild ride for Noah Dillon and band. Despite lockdowns they band have stayed active releasing 3 singles over the course of the year and growing their audience nationally and internationally with both of the previous singles hitting over 100,000 spins on Spotify, picked up for rotation on Triple J, and were selected as Triple J Unearthed feature artist in May.

In the live arena the band have been lucky to get back on stage and do sell-out shows in WA, as well as being asked to play Australia’s first COVID safe festival in Good Day Sunshine festival later this month, Noah has also performed digitally on the first Isol-aid festival, and signed to the very reputable New World Artists.

Glowing praise for the recent single “Sunburnt in July” and “Mathew McConaughey” has propelled the band into the hearts of Australia.

FREMANTLE’S Kings Square is the new location for the famed Freo Long Table Dinner, now in its fifth year.

Tickets for the popular fundraiser, organised by the National Hotel and homeless support group St Patrick’s Community Support Centre, are now on sale.

The November 28 event will feature numerous high-profile chefs including TV’s Anna Gare, Kailis Fish Market Café head chef Pete Manifis, Bread in Common’s Scott Brannigan, Manuka Woodfire Kitchen’s Kenny McHardy and Melissa Palinkas from Young George and Ethos.

Students from the Empyrean Education Institute will provide additional support in the National Hotel kitchen.

The three-course dinner will be accompanied by the some of the state’s best wines and local craft beers from Little Creatures, Leeuwin Estate, Ferngrove Estate and Capel Vale Wines.

National Hotel owner Karl Bullers started the fundraiser in 2016 and was looking to shake things up this year, moving the event from High Street to Kings Square, as part of a larger free community event.

“As well as a fantastic dinner, ticketholders will be treated to an evening of entertainment provided by some of Fremantle’s most incredible musicians and performers,” he said.

“We’re delighted to have Circus WA back on board and look forward to announcing our guest MC and headline act soon.

“This year’s Freo Long Table Dinner is set to be extra special, not only because of its new location but it’s also the first time it will take place on a Saturday.”

St Pat’s Chief Executive Officer Michael Piu said the Freo Long Table Dinner had played a key role in strengthening the community over the past five years.

He said 2020 had been an exceptionally difficult year for everyone and he looked forward to bringing together the Fremantle community through this year’s event.

“While St Pat’s has risen to many new challenges in 2020, the need within the community continues to grow significantly,” Mr Piu said.

“The Freo Long Table Dinner is absolutely pivotal in enabling St Pat’s to continue providing wrap-around services for people who are struggling.

“We rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the Fremantle community to ensure we can reach everyone who needs support.

“This year’s Freo Long Table Dinner is also an excellent opportunity to come together for a common cause and reignite the community spirit that has been challenged in unprecedented ways over the past six months.”

The Freo Long Table Dinner will take place at 7pm, Saturday, November 28 – other major sponsors include Patrick Terminals, Dethridge Groves, the City of Fremantle and Bendigo Bank.

The National Hotel will be open throughout the day and evening, with the community invited to enjoy a refreshing drink at one of the venue’s bars or while taking in the views from the spectacular rooftop.

Tickets are available from Sticky Tickets. Visit fremantlelongtable.com.au to find out more.

Description

Formed for a show at Fremantle’s Newport Record Club series to play the songs of one of the most influential and idiosyncratic singer/songwriters of our time, the ‘Human Highway’ is fronted by long time lovers of Neil Young, David Hyams and Rose Parker. The 6- piece line up also includes bassist Roy Martinez, drummer Russell Wilson, fiddler Adam Gare, and Jeremy Threlfall on pedal steel and guitar.

Covering music from the beginning of Young’s solo career in the late '60s through to the 21st century, the band is equally adept at capturing the essence of Young's two primary styles: from the gentle folk and country-rock of albums like “Comes A Time", to the crushingly loud electric guitar driven rock of the Crazy Horse days.

They return to Fremantle after their 2019 Freo Social show and recent sell out shows at Perth’s Quarry Amphitheatre.

Featuring:
David Hyams - acoustic and electric guitars, vocals Rose Parker - acoustic guitar, vocals
Roy Martinez - bass, keyboards, vocals
Russell Wilson - drums
Jeremy Threlfall - pedal steel
Adam Gare – fiddle

“The Human Highway are awesome. We ran an evening with them at The Quarry Amphitheatre in November 2018, and it was a sell-out success, with the crowd loving the performance and shouting for several encores. They are thoroughly professional, with an excellent sound, and I would highly recommend them. David Hyams and his band are a pleasure to work with, and I hope we will do many more shows together in the future. We had only positive feedback from the crowd” - Mark Taylor Wasup Promotions

Along with an ensemble of Perths finest musicians, it is destined to be an unforgettable night of bold rock bangers like Zombie and Dreams, to nostalgic heartfelt pop ballads like Runaway and Breathless.

Having spent much of the last decade being compared to Dolores O Riordan and that undeniable haunting Celtic Voice, it was decided that now, more than ever in these crazy times, that a show like this is much needed.

Come along to Freo.Social on Thursday December 10 for an unforgettable show with special performances and many surprises.

Description

NIGHT 1
Career Spanning Billy Bragg Set

NIGHT 2
Songs From First Three Albums
‘Life’s a Riot with Spy Vs Spy’ (1983)
‘Brewing Up with Billy Bragg (1984)’
‘Talking with the Taxman about Poetry’ (1986)

NIGHT 3
Songs From Second Three Albums
‘Workers Playtime’ (1988)
‘Don’t Try This at Home’ (1991)
‘William Bloke’ (1996)

The first night’s performance will feature Bragg’s current set, which ranges across his 35 year career. The second will see Bragg perform songs from his first three albums: his punk rock debut Life’s a Riot with Spy Vs Spy (1983), its similarly raw follow-up Brewing Up with Billy Bragg (1984) and Talking with the Taxman about Poetry (1986). The third performance will see Bragg perform songs from his second three albums: the positively jangled Workers Playtime (1988), the pop classic Don't Try This at Home (1991) and the back-to-basics William Bloke (1996).

Says Billy: “After more than three decades of travelling around the world in a van, or spending all day flying vast distances to play a gig, I’m looking forward to having some time to explore cities that I usually only get to see between the soundcheck and the show. And this three night stand format is a way of keeping things interesting, both for me and the audience. I tried it out in Auckland recently and had a lot of fun revisiting my back pages.”

Billy Bragg has been a fearless recording artist, tireless live performer and peerless political campaigner for over 35 years. Politicised by a Tory government operating without love or justice, this previously adrift young man from Barking, whose failure at national exams had reduced his career opportunities to two, eventually bought himself out of the British Army in 1981 (‘the best £175 I ever spent’), determined to make a living out of song.

Don’t miss the orator, entertainer, rabble-rouser, negotiator, pamphleteer, the fabled ‘Bard of Barking’, Billy Bragg, across three extraordinary evenings.
