Al Pastor Taqueria

The makers behind Royal Burgers and Chicken bring a whole new delectable line of authentic mexican cuisine with new restaurant Al Pastor Taqueria!

  • Open Days/times:Open from March 6

Details

  • Restaurants & Cafes:Mexican

Description

Al Pastor Taqueria is a new mexican street-food diner nestled inside Fremantle's new dining precinct The Sunshine Harvester Works accompanied by neighbours Bumplings, Short Order and Dingo Sauce Co.

The mexican-style diner is inspired by a trip to Mexico which discovered authentic mexican heritage to bring to Perth, serving all sorts of tacos, burritos and quesadillas you'd only find in Mexico City - different to the Tex-Mex type food you find at most Perth diners.

The name “Al Pastor”, a nod to chef and co-owner Al, also refers to marinated pork cooked on a vertical rotisserie. It’s the restaurant’s signature protein, alongside longaniza (a Spanish sausage similar to chorizo), beef short ribs and chicken. Vegan options will also be provided to customers.

The bar will serve tequila-based cocktails and Mexican beers as well as the option to have frozen or unfrozen margaritas!

Description

The heritage-listed building, first established in 1850 by Captain Daniel Scott, is overflowing with features preserved from the original site including a glass shielded floor and wall display of the original cellar door limestone.

Australia’s first craft brewery and Fremantle’s own Matilda Bay Brewery has partnered with Ball & Chain to bring the iconic institution back to its roots coincidentally on its 30 year anniversary. Offering the widest range of Matilda Bay craft beer and ciders on tap than any other pub in Western Australia, craft beer lovers will be spoilt for choice.

Whisky enthusiasts are welcome to the Ball & Chain’s own Bourbon Room featuring floor to ceiling shelves loaded with the best range of whiskey brands from around the world. Plus the Ball & Chain features a Pub Grub Menu hand selected to accompany your favourite craft beer of whisky. The selection includes beef sliders, prawn skewers, pulled pork, and jalapeno poppers to name but a few.

Ball & Chain General Manager David Bornmann has spent countless hours researching the historic site and is pleased to finally be able to present the pub to the public.

“Our history dates back to 1850 when Captain Daniel Scott decided to build a warehouse and to dig a well on the site,” Mr Bornmann said.

“With a well and warehouse he could act as a ship’s victualler but the waterfront warehouse was invaluable when the first 75 convicts arrived in Fremantle on the 1st June 1850. The convicts that arrived on the Scindian used Scott’s warehouse as their own home until Captain Henderson and the convicts had constructed their own convict establishment – hence the name Ball & Chain.”

“In 1896 the building was first used as a Hotel, later becoming a well-known corner pub named ‘Hubbles’ after its owner. It was also a meeting place for the working class of Fremantle as boxing tournaments were held out the back whilst workers picked up on the veranda who sat on the timber benches still outside today.”

“In recent times the pub went incognito as it was closed for business and instead used as office space.”

“Now we have ripped out the desks, stripped back the wallpaper, knocked out the temporary walls and brought back to life one of Fremantle’s most iconic pubs.”

Brought back to life by Primewest as part of their redevelopment of The Esplanade Hotel, the venue is now managed by Rydges. Primewest Directors John Bond, David Schwartz and Jim Litis Lodge purchased the Esplanade Hotel in 2013 to include in their expanding property portfolio with the most recent upgrade of the Ball & Chain pub completing the million dollar plus redevelopment of the property.

  • Open Days/times:Sun - Thur (12pm to (9.30pm), Fri - Sat (12pm to 10.30pm)

Details

  • Restaurants & Cafes:Icecreameries

Description

Our mission is to make the best possible ice cream in the nicest possible way, and this underlies all of Ben & Jerry’s actions. Our ice cream is what sets us apart. We continue to search for ingredient suppliers who are aligned with our company’s mission and core values. These are suppliers who, through their business practices or through their products, are expanding economic opportunities for the disadvantaged, leading the way to more sustainable environmental or agricultural practices, or serving the cause of peace and justice.

Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is made of dairy cream and milk, so we care about where it comes from. Our Caring Dairy programme helps the dairy farmers we source from to move towards more sustainable farming practices. We use cage-free eggs and Fair Trade vanilla and cocoa, ensuring a fair price for farmers, benefitting their families, communities and the environment. We believe that no one should be exploited, so we help everyone involved with our ice cream to prosper - including the cows.

It also helps that our products are amazingly delicious! Our ice cream is rich and dense in flavour, and we are famous for the addition of chunks and swirls, creating flavours never before experienced. The fun, quirky names that we assign to our ice cream also set it apart from other brands, and creates a topic of discussion for our customers. We also offer hand packed Ben & Jerry’s pints, sundaes, shakes, cakes and other euphoric desserts and sweet treats that are only available at Ben & Jerry’s scoop shops.

As a Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop franchisee you have exclusive access to our popular and creative flavours, which are not available to be scooped through any other channel. Each year we are releasing new exciting flavours and developing new menu items to surprise and delight our customers. Our customers know and understand that we have a range of exclusive flavours available only at our scoop shops, and this helps keep them coming back. You will benefit from the exclusivity of our brand and product offering, as this will help you attract and retain loyal customers who are excited about our brand.

We are passionate about creating a dining experience like no other through friendly service, amazing food and breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and we believe in serving up whatever is the freshest, not whatever is most convenient. That’s why you will never find anything frozen on our menu. We are guided by a ‘love your locals’ ethos which means our menu is a celebration of the best seasonal produce our Perth-based suppliers have to offer.

We receive fresh ingredients daily and our food is prepared through a fusion of modern and primitive cooking techniques including smoking, pickling and wood firing. Under the guidance of executive chef and partner Scott Bridger these classical and modern cooking styles produce timeless dishes presented in an eclectic style. Since our food looks (almost) as good as at tastes, our guests can look forward to feasting their eyes before conquering their appetites.

Allow our friendly and knowledgeable staff to guide you through our menu which boasts delicious dishes and an amazing array of beverages and cocktails while enjoying our elevated beachside location with beautiful vistas across Leighton Beach.

Owners and ‘official taste testers’ Eamon Sullivan, Steve Hooker and Jamie Dwyer warmly invite you and your tribe to join us for a meal at Bib and Tucker. We look forward to seeing you for a morning, afternoon or evening of eats, laughs and a touch of elegant rascality.

Our kitchen food philosophy is about locally sourced, seasonal produce and house made. Constructed to be about sharing, enjoying time in common.

Our bar and wine wall is about the small, rare and unusual as much as the loved and simple.

The bakery bakes our traditional rustic breads, featured in our menus, and available to take-home and also offers take-out sandwiches and coffee.

Executive Chef, Scott Brannigan and Head Chef, Chris Eales direct the kitchen, with their emphasis being on a seasonal farm to table menu.

Description

SOFT OPENING Friday July 5, 12, 19 & 26. 6pm to 10pm.

Growing up in a large Mauritian family, my childhood was fortunately filled with delicious food experiences. Not only was I born with an enormous appetite, but food was central to so many things in my life. A visit to my Grandmere’s (Grandmother) was never without a home cooked meal and special occasions were often planned around dining together as a family at our local Dim Sum house.

It wasn’t until school holidays in year 4 when my Grandmere taught me how to prepare dumplings (wontons) from scratch that I discovered the staggering yumminess of authentic Mauritian and Asian cooking, and despite having tried hundreds and possibly thousands of dumplings across my life, Grandmere’s pork wontons to this day will always be my favourite.
Please note that although Bumplings is the result of my ongoing obsession with dumplings as well as many years of experiments and tasty discoveries in the kitchen, it is also the result of learning from my Grandmere that making delicious food is all the more sweeter when shared with those around you.
- Owner and Head Dumpling Maker, Brendan Pang.

Description

Sean and Charlie met, played cards and drank tequila, this inevitably lead to marriage. Best mate, Woody ran other people’s restaurants with Charlie and drank rum with Sean, and thus an awesome little gang with big ideas was formed.

So with nothing but two dogs, a little kitchen and a well stocked booze cabinet to occupy their spare time, the three cooked and drank and laughed their way towards potential gout and a place of their own. Their mission was simple: feed the people and make them happy.

Sites came and went and it seemed the perfect spot would never be found... until fate lent a hand and delivered a rare gem amongst freo cafes into their grateful hands.

And so the bruce was born. And here we are.

Who knows where the adventure goes from here but as long as there are three goofballs at the helm with a margarita in hand and a hundred ideas a day, it'll be anything but dull ...
