Born and raised in Southern Germany, Helga migrated to Australia in 1986. She is a self taught award winning contemporary artist, who over the years, has developed her own style using acrylic, combined with various methods and painting tools to create unique effects and brings concepts to life.

Helga has a strong concept in mind before starting to paint. She often uses luminous mauves and different shades of blue to give her paintings a mysterious feeling of another world. Or using quickly applied impasto gel, creating a bright and cheerful presence, amplified with a 3D effect.

Description

I make copious notes in my journal and paint watercolours while camping in remote areas.

The profound experience of living and working in the desert most of my life culminated in my solo exhibition "Katjarra Country" in 2011 while experiences sustained trekking in the Kimberley produced works for "Way to Walcott" in 2015.

Travelling through the Great Victoria, Gibson and Great Sandy Deserts in 2014, I noted messages left in pickle jars at junctions, roughly made signs at drill holes and obsolete directional signage.

Works developed from these themes formed my solo exhibition "Desert Messages" at Kidogo Art House fremantle in February 2019.

My current body of work considers the fire and rain events that shape our land.
