Burnside Organic Wines

A family-owned and operated certified organic and biodynamic farm and vineyard making Vermention and Zinfandel in various forms and growing amazing produce that can be found at the local markets.

Description

Established in 2011 by Jamie and Lara McCall, this small family winery is organic and biodynamic with Australian Certified Organic and has been for over 15 years. The farm's dry-grown, north-facing vineyards are managed by hand and the fruit is hand-picked by the McCalls each vintage, reflecting the estate's family values and close attention to detail. 

The Wines

A Zinfandel and Zinfandel Rose are made, taking inspiration from David Hohnen’s original plantings at Cape Mentelle in the 1970s. Vermentino is made in still and sparkling styles.  Wines can be purchased from stockists throughout Western Australia or at the farm by appointment only. 

Unique Highlights

Burnside Organic Wines is also home to four rammed-earth bungalows featuring solid limestone walls, charming firepits and sweeping views of the Burnside Organic Farm. The Farm also grows meat and poultry, eggs, fruit and vegetables, honey and wine. The produce can often be found at the Margaret River Farmer’s Markets on Saturday mornings.

 

Carpe Diem Vineyard

Taste handmade, hand-bottled Italian varietal wines at the winery-based tasting table with the Anderle family, who relocated from the Mediterranean in 2001 to pursue their dreams in Margaret River.

Description

Carpe Diem is the heart-warming winery of Gianfranco and Francesco Anderle, a delightful winemaking family who visited Margaret River in 2000, fell in love with the region and sold up their assets to chase their dreams with a 75 hectare property in Wilyabrup. Hence the name, Carpe Diem!

The Wines
Winemaker Gianfranco trained at the world’s oldest wine school in Europe, Conegliano in Northern Italy. He brings a strong European approach to his winemaking, every aspect of which he does in his custom-built winery, including hand-bottling his wines. Italian varieties are the focus such as pinot grigio, schiaffo, vermentino, nebiolo and decantato. 

Wine Tasting
Known for the beautiful Italian hospitality, Gianfranco and Francesca love meeting their guests and personally providing complimentary tastings of all the wines from their winery-based tasting table. Look out for a few small-batch special release wines are available exclusively at the cellar door from time to time.

Description

Marq Wines was created by esteemed Margaret River winemaker and wine lecturer, Mark Warren. The label explores the region’s capacity to grow unconventional grape varieties from fruit grown in the Wilyabrup, Yallingup and Karridale areas of Margaret River. The food friendly wines reflect the fine, intriguing styles the winemaker loves to drink most. The varieties under the label include Vermentino, Fiano, Gamay Tempranillo and more.

Cellar Door

Enjoy the special opportunity to taste wines with winemaker Mark or his partner Danielle, one of which is always ready and waiting at the Cellar Door to share their unique set of wines. In addition to tastings, wines are available by the glass, served alongside cheese and charcuterie platters. Located just 10 minutes from Dunsborough, the cellar door is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday Mondays.

Moojelup Farm Wines

Enjoy a slice of farming history and the flagship sparkling Shiraz at the Moojelup farm vineyard located 8km north of Harvey at the foothills of the Darling Scarp.

Description

Moojelup Farm takes its name from the Nyoongar word Mooja, the Aboriginal name for the famous Western Australian Christmas tree.

Established by John Thompson Logue in the 1880’s, the property was originally used for beef cattle, sheep and dairy farming. In the 1990’s, owners Stephanie and Simon Holthouse developed a boutique winery with the first vintage released in 2000.

Traditional winemaking methods include handpicked fruit, open fermentation and basket pressing. The winery is particularly suited to Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillion and Vermentino. Take the opportunity to indulge in the superb Sparkling Shiraz; not to mention our classic Cabernet, Shiraz and Semillon.

The Cellar door is open by appointment.

Description

Three generations of the Hammond family have toiled together to create the vineyards of Oakway Estate within the Geographe Wine Region. Owners Wayne and Ria planted their vines in 1997, and following success with winemaking, the former orchard farm now supports a boutique winery and cellar door, nano brewery, vineyard, a plantation of sustainable blue gum trees and beef cattle.

Oakway Estate takes a very hands-on and natural approach to vineyard management to carefully monitor vine vigour and growth, undertaking labour-intensive tasks including fruit thinning and leaf plucking to grow superb quality grapes.

The Wine

Varieties include Sauvignon Blanc (and blends), Chardonnay, Vermentino, Nero D'avola, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Old School Liqueur and a delicously sweet Moscato.

Cellar Door

Enjoy sampling our wines, or stay longer and purchase a glass or bottle of wine to savour  whilst overlooking our changing vineyard vista throughout the seasons. If you prefer beer, try our own craft beers on tap. Open weekends and most public holidays from 11am - 5pm.

The Food

Oakway's cellar door cafe features gourmet bespoke pizzas, dukkah with olive oils and bread, and antipasto platters designed to complement the Estate wines. A selection of craft beers and ciders are available too.

A calendar of Long Table Lunches prepared by local guest chefs to showcase WA’s excellent local produce is scheduled throughout the year. Bookings essential.

Founded in 1997, West Cape Howe quickly grew a reputation as one of Western Australia’s most popular wine brands and was named Australia’s ‘Best Value Winery’ by James Halliday in 2016.

Wines are grown at two estate vineyards, the most significant being their Langton Vineyard, one of the Great Southern Region’s earliest planted vineyards, established in Mount Barker in 1978. This site grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Shiraz and has produced many trophy winning wines. The vineyards are managed with a holistic approach and use of natural management practices where possible. The wines are made at West Cape Howe’s state-of-the-art winery in Mount Barker.

Four tiers of wines are made representing a broad selection of regional hero varieties with a few surprises too.

Located 45 minutes north of Albany, the West Cape Howe Cellar Door offers wine tastings daily from 10am to 5pm on weekdays and 11am to 4pm on weekends.

Description

Established in 2015 in in Margaret River, LS Merchants is owned by Dylan Arvidson and his wife, Taryn.


Working with wine regions throughout WA, LS Merchants’ wines are made with minimal intervention, wild fermentation where possible and a lot of experimentation; the former to express the varietal characters, the latter to push the boundaries of conventional winemaking and produce interesting and enticing styles.


Varieties include: Vermentino, Verdot Pinot, Syrah and a Red Blend.


Production is very small, usually consisting of one or two barrels so please get in contact to see what LS Merchants are currently offering and where you can find it!

Description

Me, Nick (Maker) & Sarah (Master) make small batch, single vineyard, low-intervention wines of texture and character from Margaret River with left of centre varieties. We made a grand total of 600 dozen bottles in 2017 from 9.5 tonnes of Vermentino, Chenin & Cabernet Franc. We want to make our wines with a light touch, avoiding fining, filtering only if vital and being sensitive to the needs of the wines rather than imposing pre-existing recipes.
