Description

Beach-combing on a remote Far Northern section of The Great Barrier Reef, gave me opportunity to take a special photo that has now made its way into my artwork.

It was the catalyst to commence a marine inspired theme called “overboard”. A small cottage in Margaret River has been in the process of renovation during the past 12 months and an art studio has emerged. I now have a home for my artworks and space to paint in a pretty little piece of Margaret River.

Carmen Mcfaull

My favourite themes incorporate water - its playful fluidity, direction and colour possibilities.

Painting is as much a part of my life as eating or resting. Even though I have intention when I begin a new piece, I allow the painting to have a say. There is a great deal of problem solving that goes on but challenge brings growth, satisfaction and endless inspiration and hopefully a positive emotional response from the viewer.

I run group workshops in pastel, acrylic and oils at my studio gallery, as well as for art societies throughout Australia.

Description

For, after securing my loving father and my adventurous mother, my gift: to enjoy to make pictures and to frolic around with colour and shapes. Doing so, brings me much satisfaction and joy.

I graduated from Sydney’s City Art Institute, with a BA in 1984. Since then I've been working as an artist, illustrator and teacher, mostly using water colour and ink on paper and acrylic on canvas.

I like to start with a theme or an idea and then see where it takes me. It is always a surprise to see what happens when I get out of my own way.

Cecile Rigoli

Being a professionnel picture framer gives me the chance to meet many artists, art lovers and creative people and I often have to answer The question "are you an artist yourself ? " My truthful answer would be that I like telling stories through various forms of art, mixing a range of media and poetry.

Chloe Wilder

Chloe Wilder is yet another Margaret River blow in from a small and extraordinarily exotic country off the East coast of Australia.

  • Open Days/times:BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
  • Galleries:Drawing,Painting,Mixed Media,Print Making,Artist Studio

Details

  • Open Days:By Appointment Only

Description

Her current body of work is focusing on the modern female portrait. In her large scale oil paintings, Chloe attempts to connect with women who display an air of strength and hunts down faces on social media.

It seems a tad odd of her to paint people she doesn’t know and to expect you to be impressed by her renditions of those who mean squat to you, but that is the whole point. What inspires a painter? Can you communicate a feeling? Is it the same feeling for everyone? What is the connection between the artist and the muse? How is that connection forged between people sometimes on opposite sides of the world? What even is a portrait in the era of selfie culture?

Description

Bird watching from a young age in central Victoria; having a natural inclination to paint in watercolours; mixed with working as a design draftsman for many years, led to Chris becoming a fine watercolour artist of birds and landscapes. was trained to use a Crow-Quill pen nib that was just so fine: and it may be that training that stayed with me when even using a fine kolinsky brush decades later.

Each painting is designed to achieve: an attractive picture; technically reliable portrayal of the birds and flora; high quality workmanship; and most importantly to increase appreciation and ultimately the conservation of Western Australian birds.

Along with producing fine art originals, we produce a complimenting range of Limited Edition and Open Prints and greeting cards.

Description

Landscape is my source of inspiration and research, painting plein air in gouache and watercolours, and oils in the studio.

Light and abstract qualities are elements I particularly enjoy while painting.

My work represents the disciplines of watercolours gouaches and oils, past and more recent, large and small which make up an overview of how I go about painting, with work from Europe which contrasts with my main subject of Australian landscape.

Directions:

From Gunyulgup Galleries and Little Fish Restaurant on Koorabin Drive, go up Nukklgup Loop for approx. 1km then turn left into Corymbia Close. Go approx. 300m to the end turn-around and park on the street, without blocking driveways.

Elizabeth Whiteman

Luscious, buttery oils are my medium. Colour is my language. Multi-layered, colour-drenched canvases. I seek to expand my vocabulary and tell stories that move me.

Description

Stories of vulnerability and fragility. How this provokes such a diverse range of human response, from the desire to nurture and protect, to discard as worthless, through to perverse exploitation and abuse for personal gain…

Nudes figure prominently in my paintings – naked, intimate, private. I want to gently peak behind the mask, reveal what’s hidden, raw, laid bare, exposed, both in the subject matter and in the human response. The exposed becomes the exposer.

Fi Wilkie

Fi Wilkie is a Painter based in Margaret River where she has lived and worked for over 25 years. In addition to spending her time as a full time artist, she works with non artists, lapsed artists and budding artists to develop and engage with their own creative thinking. Her Workshops aim to build confidence, lose fear, and to help the participant get to know more about themselves, how they work and how to listen to their own intuitive selves.

  • Galleries:Painting,Print Making,Artist Studio,Drawing
  • Open Days/times:BY APPOINTMENT ONLY

Details

  • Open Days:By Appointment Only

Description

Fi has been busy dreaming, imagining, problem solving and pitching ideas since she was 4. Her usual comment, as a young child, to any loving gift giver was – ‘what other colours did they have’! She has a background in Design and loves colour, shape and pattern.

Her process of creating is always evolving, she starts her work with a big random ‘mess’ and then works how to clarify and ‘find’ the painting within it. It seems to reflect the mess of life, the uncontrollable elements, the parts we need to let go of and just allow. The work of bringing it under control – turning it into something that makes sense is the journey each painting goes thru. Fi never plans her images, she lets them evolve – so she can enjoy the surprise and see what will happen – continuing to work on them until there doesn’t seem to be anything left to do.
