Description

Esperance Civic Centre presents Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player. Proudly supported by Lotterywest. DAVID SCHEEL in DON’T SHOOT ME, I’M ONLY THE PIANO PLAYER is a runaway success in London’s West End, at successive Edinburgh Festivals, at the Melbourne Comedy Festival and right across the USA, this is a hilarious send-up of classical music, which has established Australian pianist, David Scheel, as the successor to the legendary Victor Borge. Beautiful music, and musical fun performed in so many accents/voices that David has also been compared to the late Robin Williams, and Peter Ustinov. Hear a familiar tune played in the styles of the old masters + an i-Pod; two famous pieces played simultaneously, one with the right hand, one with the left, plus his “translation” of the lyrics of Waltzing Matilda, already a comedy classic. Visit www.davidscheel.com REVIEWS “As funny as any, wittier than most, and, uniquely, a concert pianist of international stature...He stands alone, in a class of his own.” [BBC Arts Review] “The only show in town that can satisfy lovers of classical music and comedy alike.” [San Francisco Chronicle] Duration 60mins

One of the most widely read books in history - 140 million copies sold worldwide and printed in more than 250 languages and dialects including braille - Saint-Exupéry’s exquisite tale tells the story of a curious prince who leaves his tiny home planet and journeys across the universe, discovering that adults have very strange ideas about the things that really matter “The work speaks strongly about what really matters in life. It isn’t expensive or flashy things that have the greatest value, it’s the people we form relationships with,” he said. Jiri Zmitko’s design cleverly reveals the tiny world of the Prince, the Sahara desert and the stars of the night sky. His hand carved puppets of the Fox, the Snake, the Little Prince and the Rose, are characters sure to live on in the audience’s imagination.

Western Australian Symphony Orchestra - Southern Symphony Tour

  • Produced By:WASO: WA Symphony Orchestra

Description

WASO returns to Esperance this September, delivering a complete live symphony orchestra experience. Upon his highly anticipated return to Western Australia, Principal Conductor Asher Fisch will lead a touring party of over 70 musicians to perform two great masterpieces by Sibelius and Brahms. One of Australia’s finest young violinists, Grace Clifford also joins the tour as soloist to perform Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. Inspiring works will be delivered on the mainstage in Esperance, direct from Perth. Fauré’s most popular work Pavane was originally composed as a piano piece, is a glorious piece for orchestra, portraying a graceful sixteenth-century court dance and an enchanting introduction to the program. Sibelius’ Violin Concerto begins with one of the most captivating openings in the repertoire – and Brahms’ symphony with one of the most imposing and intense. In creating these works, both composers took their time to realise the perfect piece of music; Sibelius revising his concerto over a year after its initial premiere and Brahms painstakingly shaping his symphony for two decades. In these two works, they produced two of the greatest masterpieces in the repertoire, that are a thrill to experience live with a full symphony orchestra.
